NFL Kickers and Punters Who Lived Up to Expectations

During the NFL Draft fans from all 32 teams will keep track and debate the picks of their favorite team. While the Draft has become a showcase for high profile players like quarterbacks, running backs, cornerbacks and defensive ends, who will one day light up the marquee of their home stadium, the kicking specialists get treated the same way they do on game day. With anonymity and little if any star quality. Eddie Lacy Womens Jersey

While a majority of kickers and punters are journeymen who fight for free agent contracts during training camp and during the season when established kickers fail, some of the NFL's all time best were taken on draft day.

The 6'4", 250 pound Roby was drafted out of the University of Iowa in the sixth round of the 1983 draft by the Miami Dolphins. Roby averaged more than 43 yards a punt for his 16 year career played with five teams. His career ended as a San Francisco 49er, where he finished with 42,951 punting yards. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Jersey

4. Sebastian Janikowski

"Sea Bass," as he is affectionately called by his admirers, was the highest picked kicker or punter ever when the Raiders took him with the 17th overall pick in 2000. The Florida State product brought a rap sheet with him to the NFL that expanded during his first few seasons with charges for bribery and driving under the influence. Despite the auspicious start, Janikowski has gone on to a strong NFL career. The Polish immigrant has hit more than 78 percent of his field goal attempts and has a career long of 61 yards.

3. Gary Anderson

A product of South Africa and Syracuse University, Anderson was taken in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1982 draft. Anderson went on to a 22 year career where he made four Pro Bowl trips and made the All Decade Team for both the 1980s and 1990s.

In 1998, as a Minnesota Viking, Anderson was perfect on field goals in the regular season. However, his lone miss of the season in the NFC Championship Game was a key ingredient to the Vikings' upset loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

2. Ray Guy Eddie Lacy Kids Jersey

Southern Miss' Guy holds the distinction as the only pure punter to be drafted in the first round of the draft. The Raiders took him 23rd overall in 1973. Guy is synonymous with excellence at his position. A six time All Pro and a three time Super Bowl winner, Guy's career has become a benchmark for what a punter in the NFL should be. During his career he went to seven Pro Bowls and was named to the 1980s and 1990s All Decade Teams. Paul, MN.
