FAMILY FAVOURITE PUDDING, BEST SERVED WARM WITH CUSTARD MADE FROM EVAPORATE DMILK

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound dessert pears, (williams or conference)
  • 6 ozs sugar
  • 4ozs margarine
  • 8ozs self raising flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspooon powdered ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

Preheat electric oven to 180 degrees Celsius/Centigrade.  Peel and core pears, put to simmer with a little water to cover and 2 ozs of the sugar (about 5 minutes)  Drain and place in ovenproof dish.  Sift flour, ginger and cocoa powder into clean baking bowl.  Cut margarine into small pieces and rub into the flour mixture with fingertips until this resembles fine breadbrumbs.  Add the remaining 4ozs sugar and mix together with metal spoon.  Put this crumble mix over the pears and place on the middle shelf of the pre-heated oven for about 25-3o minutes.  Serve warm with custard made with custard powder, sugar and reconstituted evaporate dmilk for a really creamy tase, or you could serve with vanilla ice cream.

 

The chocolate and ginger flavour really goes well with the pears
