UConn staff Matt Prater Youth Jersey thinking big on recruiting trail
Armed with a national championship and about as much positive press as any head coach could ever ask for over the past several weeks, Matt Prater Orange Jersey Kevin Ollie and his staff have been out on the recruiting trail lately, visiting AAU tournaments and recruits homes.
And it appears the Huskies are thinking big. Literally.
During the live recruiting period that ran from April 10 23, UConn had in home visits with a pair of highly touted Class of 2015 big men: Jessie Govan (6 feet 10, 260 pounds) from the Bronx Terrance Knighton Kids Jersey and Diamond Stone (6 10, 235) out of Milwaukee. UConn has also shown strong interest in Cheick Diallo (6 9, 210) out of Centereach, New York, and recently took a look at 7 footer Georgios Papagiannis out of Westtown, Pennsylvania. Carlton Bragg, a 6 9 power forward out of Cleveland, is also reportedly high on the Huskies wish list.
Govan was at UConn First Night festivities last October and would figure to be a great get for the Huskies. His AAU coach, former UMass standout Dana Dingle, said Govan is still open in his recruitment and won likely make a decision until early fall. As far as UConn goes?
likes it, Dingle said. likes coach Ollie, likes the staff. They in a good place right now.
very quick, athletic, he got long arms, plays good defense and shoots the ball well, said Ron Stelzer, Diallo coach at Our Savior New American High. moves around the basket well. He a hard working kid, a good kid. for just a couple of years, hasn really narrowed down a list of favorite schools at this point.
Of course, all of the above mentioned players will still be in high school next winter. The Huskies need immediate help in the frontcourt, especially with leading rebounder DeAndre Daniels heading to the NBA and Tyler Olander graduating. Heck, NBA bound guard Shabazz Napier was the team second leading rebounder. The Huskies have 7 foot Amida Brimah returning, though his progress could be slowed this offseason after undergoing left shoulder surgery last week that will require about a 4 5 month rehab period.
Phil Nolan, whose defense was key to the Huskies NCAA tournament run, will be back, as will Kentan Facey, who the staff believes will emerge into a top player. UConn will also welcome bruising Rakim Lubin into the fold. Lubin, a 6 7, 220 pounder out of Georgia, will add bulk to broncosnflofficialproshop.com/Nike-Rahim-Moore-Jersey.html the Huskies front line next season, though it remains to be seen if he have an immediate impact.
Of course, as UConn proved once again this past season, good guard play means everything in college basketball, particularly come March. In Ryan Boatright, the Huskies have one of the better guards around returning. Terrence Samuel showed great improvement as his freshman season progressed, and the Huskies can only hope Omar Calhoun lost season was an aberration and a result of his www.broncosnflofficialproshop.com/Nike-Britton-Colquitt-Jersey.html two offseason hip surgeries.
Joining the fray will be former McDonald All American Rodney Purvis, the NC State transfer who had to sit out this past season but was a in the garage that I can drive, according to Ollie. Also coming in will be a pair of high level recruits: 6 7 wing Daniel Hamilton, who recently played in the prestigious Jordan Brand Classic game, and 6 4 combo guard Sam Cassell Jr. Both could see significant minutes right off the bat.
While the Huskies are undoubtedly on the hunt for Class of 2015 big men, they are still very much in the mix for guards, as well. They already signed two high level guards in Prince Ali and Will Jackson. But UConn has also recently had an in home visit with Malik Newman, the No. Derrick Jones, a highly touted wing out of Philadelphia, is reportedly visiting Storrs this weekend, and 6 4 Allonzo Trier tweeted this week that he has picked up an offer from Ollie.
Then there the interesting case of Jalen Adams out of Boston. The 6 2 guard Terrance Knighton Youth Jersey has led Cushing Academy to consecutive New England Prep League Class AA championships. His coach, Barry Connors, believes Adams is most interested in UConn and Kansas, and there no doubt the feeling is mutual.
