Four teams that might get Jason Spezza
Five years ago, general manager Bryan Murray hands were tied when Dany Heatley wanted out of Ottawa. But now that the departure of Jason Spezza is seemingly inevitable the last remaining piece of The Pizza Line which brought the Senators to their one and only modern day Stanley Cup appearance in 2007 Brandon Browner Elite Jersey the picture isn quite so bleak for Murray as he considers trade options.
Recapping the history, Heatley was in complete control of where he ended up, vetoing a deal which would have sent him to the Edmonton Oilers and would have saved the organizationhanding Heatley a $4 million bonus. (Owner Eugene Melnyk has since reached a settlement, with no financial terms released). Ultimately, the Senators received Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo from San Jose, but Cheechoo was included in the deal to off set Heatley $7.5 million salary cap hit and the five years remaining on his contract. The Senators eventually bought out Darrelle Revis Womens Jersey Cheechoo.
Spezza, however, only has a list of 10 teams he can be traded to. He has only one year and $4 million remaining on his contract and his new team will have control of his future. The likely asking price is a player, a prospect and a top draft pick.
While it makes some sense that the Toronto Maple Leafs might have an interest in bringing Spezza home the Maple Leafs have never found a http://www.officialpatriotsonlineprostore.com/WOMENS-BRANDON-LAFELL-JERSEY.html true number one centre there little chance Murray would trade him to the Senators arch rivals. The Senators GM would also be relunctant to trade within the division, for fear of Spezza coming back to burn the Senators. (For reference purposes, see Ben Bishop and Tampa Bay Lightning)
Keep all that in mind while considering these potential homes for the captain.
St. Brandon Browner Limited Jersey Louis Blues
Why would this make sense? In their disappointing first round playoff exit, the Blues scored only 2.3 goals per game (14th of 16 teams) and their power play operated at a dreadful 6.9 per cent success rate. Spezza, meanwhile, has scored at a point per gamepace throughout his career and is one of the NHL best power play players.
The Blues have only seven forwards signed to guaranteed NHL contracts (Vladimir Tarasenko is still on his entry level contract) and centres Derek Roy and Steve Ott are pending unrestricted free agents.
What would the Senators want in return? Patrik Berglund, a 6 4, 215 pound centre selected 25th overall in the 2006 NHL entry draft, took a step back in 2013 14, scoring14 goals and 18 assists in 78 games, after netting 17 goals and eight assists in 48 games in 2012 13. Berglund, a pending restricted free agent, had a shoulder injury in the playoffs. Defenceman Ian Cole, who struggled to find playing time on the deep Blues defence, has one year and $825,000 remaining on his contract. Cole was drafted 18th overall in 2007. Nashville finished 19th in goals scored last season and they were dead last in 2013 and All Star defenceman Shea Weber has been the club leading scorer for the past two seasons.
Incoming coach Peter Laviolette is expected to embrace change Darrelle Revis Authentic Jersey and will be looking to make the Predators a more offensive minded team.
What would the Senators want in return? World junior star Filip Forsberg spent most of the 2013 14 season in Milwaukee of the AHL, scoring 34 points in 47 games, failing to earn Trotz trust. Forsberg, originally drafted 11th overall by Washington in 2012, is blessed with natural talent. Centre Colin Wilson, who scored 11 goals and 22 assists last season, could be part ofa package.
Worth Noting: If Spezza ended up in Nashville, the Predators centre depth could very well be Spezza, Mike Fisher, Matt Cullen. Cogliano, who scored 22 goals and 20 assists during the regular season, has four years and $12 million remaining on his deal, but also owns a limited no trade clause. Centre Nick Bonino is also 26 with good numbers (22 goals, 27 assists in the regular season and some big playoff goals), but http://www.officialpatriotsonlineprostore.com/WOMENS-DANNY-AMENDOLA-JERSEY.html his favourable contract means the Ducks would be relunctant to trade him away. Bonino will be paid $1.9 million for each of the next three seasons.
Worth Noting: There would be irony in any Senators Ducks deal. The addition of a veteran centre such as Spezza could take some pressure off Jonathan Huberdeau. The Panthers, always in a fight for attention in a busy sports market, could make a splash by adding a marquee name.
What would the Senators want in return? Panthers general manager Dale Tallon told a Toronto radio station that he was actively shopping the club first overall draft selection. Spezza as part of a package for Barrie defenceman Aaron Ekblad or Kingston centre Sam Bennett? Throughout the 2013 14 season, there were rumblings that the Panthers were shopping defenceman Dmitry Kulikov, speculation that Panthers management denied. Kulikov, a pending restricted free agent, could secure $4 $5 million per year in a long term contract.
Worth Noting: At the 2001 NHL draft in Florida, the Senators selected Spezza with the second overall draft selection, acquired from the New York Islanders in the trade that sent Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders and also brought Zdeno Chara to Ottawa.
