Do you think suspended Miami Dolphins' player Richie Incognito is a bully
The Miami Dolphins have suspended veteran player Richard Incognito indefinitely after he allegedly sent menacing text messages to a younger teammate, Jonathan Martin. The NFL is currently investigating. Incognito is also said to have gotten Martin to contribute $15,000 to a trip that some teammates took to Las Vegas last summer.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins announced that the allegations of bullying taking place on the team were speculation but that they were taking them seriously.
Incognito, for his part, tweeted the Dolphins' statement, sparking a variety of reactions from users who criticized him and dubbed him a bully.
That tweet was followed by a series of tweets in which Incognito reacts to what he feels are attempts by the media and others to slander him. Last November, Incognito was voted the second dirtiest player in the Sporting News midseason players poll.
I believe this situation is a failure on the players' part to exercise veteran leadership. They're the ones who see situations bubble up, and they know the genesis of it. When I was vice chairman of the Indianapolis Colts and general manager of the Buffalo Bills, we had a very strong position on it. Most of what would be called "rookie orientation" involves carrying vets' pads or buying donuts on Saturday mornings, but that's as far as it goes. The situation that has developed with the Miami Dolphins is on a more serious level.

From Jonathan Mahler, a Bloomberg View columnist:
Troy Stradford, a former Dolphin who now does game broadcasts, said it would be hard for Martin to return to the team because his fellow players will read his departure as "a sign of weakness."
You don't make it to the NFL if you're not mentally and physically tough. And when you have committed your life to football, as Martin has, you almost certainly don't walk away from a promising career with the Miami Dolphins unless you are being put through something truly hellish.

From Isaiah Kacyvenski, a Harvard graduate who last played in the NFL in 2006:
I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner. This is a wakeup call for a lot of people. I was made fun of for a lot of reasons. Only in the NFL can a Harvard degree have negative consequences.

From Wholesale NFL Jerseys Slate's Emily Bazelon, senior editor, and Josh Levin, executive editor:
The NFL, it seems, does a much better job providing a supportive, nurturing environment for someone like Richie Incognito than it does for players like Jonathan Martin. Suspending Incognito for his locker room bullying could stop that cycle. It could also lead to a change in how the NFL deals with people like Incognito, who probably need counseling more than they do coaching, and with victims like Martin. If Martin gets the NFL and his team's support for talking honestly about the culture of the Dolphins' locker room, that would go a long way toward airing the damage teams can do when they turn on one of their own.

From Winston Justice, Broncos offensive lineman:
I'll be honest with you, I think (Jonathan) Martin totally overdramatized the whole thing. I mean, come on. Bullying is bad, but when you're a 25 year old man, it's not bullying. Get over it. Talk back to him. (Football) is the only atmosphere this is not the corporate world where you could probably fight the guy and it would be accepted. You can't do it in the corporate world, you can't do it at school, but here with men, you could do that. If we change that, it's going to change the culture of football.
