GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Johnny Cueto is set to start on opening day for the Cincinnati Reds for the third straight season. First-year manager Bryan Price said Thursday that Cueto will pitch Monday at home against St. Louis. Price had to sort through a series of minor injuries, including Cuetos tender right shoulder, before making the final determination. Cueto missed a turn this spring because of soreness. "When Johnnys been healthy, hes been our No. 1 starter, legitimately for the previous four years," Price said. "Keeping him healthy is the key. He only made 11 starts for us last year. Yesterday, I had him long toss. I asked him how he felt after it then made the decision." Tony Cingrani will pitch the second game. He was the only starter in the rotation without an injury issue this spring. Homer Bailey was skipped with a sore right groin and Mike Leake had slight pain in his abdomen. Bailey will start the final game of Cardinal series. Leake will start the first game in New York. Mat Latos will miss at least one start after minor elbow and knee surgery. Alfredo Simon will start the fifth game in New York against the Mets. Brett Marshall is slowed by a strained tendon in his middle finger, and he will see a hand specialist in Phoenix on Friday. Marshall and Devin Mesoraco may join Aroldis Chapman; Jonathan Broxton, who pitched in a minor league game today; Sean Marshall; Latos; Jack Hannahan and Skip Schumaker on the disabled list. Mesoraco hasnt played in 10 days with a strained oblique. "Devin has to play. He has to catch, throw, hit and run. It is unlikely that he will join us but we havent signed off on putting him on the disabled list," Price said. http://www.themichaelkorshandbagsoutlet.com/michael-kors-hobo-outlet/

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- John Isner held off an upset bid by Dudi Sela of Israel on Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Delray Beach Open after No. 3 seed Kei Nishikori of Japan exited the tournament because of a left hip injury. The second-seeded Isner squandered four match points in the third set after leading 4-1, but the 6-foot-10 American rallied from a 5-2 deficit to prevail in the tiebreaker for a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory that earned him a spot in the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. "More times than not, when Im up 4-1, I close it out," said Isner, who is 5-0 in his three-set matches this season but is playing in his first tournament since exiting the Australian Open with an ankle injury last month. "It definitely didnt need to go to 5-5 when I was up 4-1. I put a lot of stress on myself when I do that." The world No. 13 will face American qualifier Rhyne Williams on Friday night. Williams ousted wild-card Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-2 in Thursdays nightcap to reach his second ATP quarterfinal. Nishikoris bid to win his second consecutive ATP title came to an abrupt halt Thursday afternoon when the top-ranked Asian was forced to retire during the first set of his second-round match because of a left hip flexor injury. Nishikori was trailing Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia 4-2 when he decided to stop the match. He said that he experienced discomfort for the first time during his first-round win Tuesday in which he stretched his win-loss record this season to 12-2. "I tried to play, but if youre not 100 per cent, its tough," said Nishikori, who is ranked No. 15 in the world and was coming off a win in Memphis last week. "I couldnt do anything today. Its going to take some time to recover. Its shocking this happened, especially since Ive been playing well." Gabashvili advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday and will face No. 7 seed Marin Cilic of Croatia, who defeated American wild-card Ryan Harrison 6-3, 6-4. Samuel Groth and Max Mirnyi advanced to the doubles semifinals with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win against Americans Sekou Bangoura and Vahid Mirzadeh. Harrison and fellow American Jack Sock filled out the final spot in the doubles semifinals with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Santiago Gonzalez and Scott Lipsky. Wholesale Jerseys Cheap

. -- The Oakland Raiders are changing directions at quarterback once again."I dont believe in building through free agency." Argos general manager Jim Barker uttered those words during an interview with TSN 1050 radio just prior to the CFLs annual free agent frenzy. If you turn back the clock Barker is true to his word. Last February the only free agent the team added was LB/DE James Yurichuk. He proved his worth as a situational player who excelled on special teams, but it was far from being the kind of deal that captured the attention of more than just the die-hard fan. This may be a similar season in terms of who the Argos bring in according to Barker. "I do believe in plugging holes (via free agency) and trying to find that right guy thats going to bring our club up a notch," Barker noted. The bigger question may be what the club does about three specific players who may opt to not return to Toronto, Pat Watkins, Robert McCune and Swayze Waters. Watkins, a league all-star at cornerback last year, would be the toughest to replace. Hes also been the hardest to find. "Honestly we have not been able to get in touch with him. He doesnt return our calls, which is a bad thing," chuckled Barker. "If a guy doesnt want to be in Toronto then god bless him and good luck. Were persistent. Were sending players to his house, doing all those kind of things to try and run him down. But Pat is one of those guys who is very elusive. Its not a shocking development for us. Its possible hes just involved in something and not worried about it." Swayze Waters led the CFL in punting average and was virtually automatic on field goals down the stretch and is looking at returning to the states. "Hes tried out for a couple of NFL teams," Barker told TSN 1050. "Every indication hes given us is that hes coming back to Toronto if he comes back to the CFL." The Argos are preparing for the scenario where Waters makes an NFL team, and last week signed LSU grad Josh Jasper. Robert McCunes worth was evident in the teams loss to Hamilton in the Eastern Final. The middle linebacker, who was third in the league with 99 tackles, missed the game with a shoulder injury. It seemed every time Henry Burris scrambled, he ran right where McCune would have been. "With Robert were kind of waiting," said the GM. "Obviously Robert had a great year for us. Hes 34 years old. Thats a decision that were in the process of making, to which direction were going to go with him." If the Argos and McCune were to part ways it would leave the team down a couple of middle linebackers, as Jason Pottinger was selected by Ottawa in the expansion draft. Barker has a replacement all picked out, someone who may not be thought of as an MLB. "Shane Horton. Thats his natural position." Barker said, tthen may have tipped his hand about McCunes future.dddddddddddd "(Horton) played out of position playing rush end last year. Hes going to be a very, very good middle linebacker." Barker added he feels that at 215 pounds, Horton is big enough to play in the middle. Herve Tonye-Tonye, a non-import who just completed his rookie season, can also play the inside. As far as non-imports are concerned, it may be an interesting free agency period because of the recent expansion draft. Stocking the Ottawa RedBlacks took its toll on the existing teams rosters, so there will be a desire to restock the shelves with fresh talent. Barker commented on a few of the Canadians on the Argos that are on the verge of free agency. Chad Rempel, long snapper: "Chad worked out with Tampa Bay (NFL). He wants to give that a chance until thats exhausted." Zander Robinson, tight end/fullback: "Zander loves being in Toronto and loves how weve used him in the offence. Hes a valuable guy for us, but hes also exploring NFL opportunities." David Lee, defensive end: "Is a guy that had a real good year for us. I think he wants to try the free-agent market. Its his first time going through that and I think hes a guy that wants to go out and see what the market is all about." Mike Bradwell, wide receiver. "I think were really close. He loves being in Toronto." Coaching Moves/Tryout Camp: The Boatmen lost several coaches in the off-season. Special teams coordinator Mike OShea left to become the head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, while defensive coordinator Chris Jones took over the head coaching job with the Edmonton Eskimos. Jones also took a handful of assistant coaches with him. Barker says there will be announcement about the new-look staff in the immediate future. "Were excited about what our staff is going to look like" said Barker. "Scott (head coach Milanovich) will be announcing those (soon). Hes come up with a couple of guys who have great CFL experience.” Barker spoke to TSN 1050 from Atlanta, where the Argos were hosting a tryout camp. Over 60 players were in attendance and Barker was happy with what they found. "There were two players that were going to attempt to sign" said the GM. "Were pretty excited." If those players head north in June theyll attend training camp. Where that will be is still anyones guess. The team will not be back at the University of Torontos Erindale campus and at present are homeless. Where are they heading? "Those are questions for (Executive Chairman and CEO) Chris Rudge. "I know that theres some different things going on with York University," said Barker. "Other than that, Im not privy to those things.” ' ' '

Friends and former teammates are happy hes made it back to the NFLs biggest stage, and the general public is excited to see if No.DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies are reshaping one of baseballs worst bullpens. Left-handed reliever Boone Logan agreed to a $16.5 million, three-year contract on Friday, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal has yet to be announced. Colorado struggled with its relief corps in 2013, posting an NL-worst 4.23 ERA. Part of that may have been due to usage; the bullpen logged 555 2-3 innings, second most in the majors. Colorados first step toward bolstering the bullpen was signing LaTroy Hawkins to a one-year deal last month. Hawkins, who turns 41 on Dec. 21, is expected to compete with hard-throwing lefty Rex Brothers for the closers role. And now the Rockies are adding Logan, a power lefty who has spent the last four seasons with the New York Yankees. He was 5-2 with a 3.23 ERA in 39 innings last season. The 29-year Logan was originallly drafted in the 20th round by the Chicago White Sox in 2002.dddddddddddd The team also exercised a mutual option for 2014 with right-handed reliever Matt Belisle. Belisle struggled last season, going 5-7 with a 4.32 ERA in 73 innings, but has been steady out of the pen in the past. The makeover hasnt been limited to just the bullpen, though. Colorado started to solidify its starting rotation after a season in which the team finished last in the NL West with a 74-88 record. The Rockies recently acquired left-hander Brett Anderson -- and cash -- from the Oakland Athletics for lefty Drew Pomeranz and minor league right-hander Chris Jensen. Anderson was the Athletics starter on opening day last season and went 1-4 with a 6.04 in five starts, before finishing up as a reliever in an injury-plagued season. He will join a rotation that includes Jorge De La Rosa, Jhoulys Chacin and Tyler Chatwood. ' ' '
GLASGOW -- Canadian international DTH van der Merwe requires shoulder surgery in the wake of the Rugby World Cup. Glasgow Warriors said the back was assessed by the clubs medical team, as were all club players returning from the World Cup in New Zealand. The checkup revealed an issue with the 25-year-olds shoulder and specialists confirmed surgery was needed, The team said Van der Merwe is likely to miss "a significant portion of the season as a result." "At this stage, its very difficult to put an estimate on the likely recovery time, but clearly we will continue to monitor DTH closely," Warriors team doctor Gerry Haggerty said in a statement on the clubs website. Van der Merwe was replaced in the 31st minute of Canadas last game at the World Cup -- a 79-15 loss to eventual champion New Zealand on Oct. 2. Since leaving the Los Angeles Galaxy in December, and retiring from the game after a subsequent five-month stint at Paris Saint-Germain, Beckham has been mulling over the location for his MLS franchise. Beckham has now made up his mind and he would pay a discounted rate of $25 million to start an MLS expansion team in Miami, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because plans for the team arent being publicly discussed yet. The option of becoming a team owner was included in the MLS contract Beckham signed when joining the Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007. "We know that Miami is one of the most passionate soccer markets in North America," MLS Executive Vice-President Dan Courtemanche told the AP. "We have met with David Beckham regarding ownership of an expansion team, and we look forward to David one day owning an MLS club." There are currently 19 MLS teams, and league commissioner Don Garber hopes to expand to 24 teams by the 2020 season. A 20th team is already in place to begin playing in 2015 after Premier League club Manchester City and its partner, the New York Yankees, paid an expansion fee of $100 million to launch New York City FC. The MLS still has to give Beckham the go-ahead to make Miami the location of the franchise. Beckham is looking to raise several hundred mmillion dollars of investment to fund the setup costs, including putting together the squad of players and building a stadium.dddddddddddd Beckhams business partner Simon Fuller, the "American Idol" creator who is the driving force in franchise negotiations, will be a significant shareholder, the person familiar with the situation said. Beckham is looking to sell stakes in the team to other investors, and has already had expressions of interest from businessmen globally. Beckham hopes the team to debut in three years, which would probably require the franchise to initially play in an existing venue. In June, Beckham toured the Sun Life and Florida International University stadiums and met with Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. University officials delivered a presentation to Beckham and Marcelo Claure, president and CEO of Brightstar Corp. and a member of the FIU Board of Trustees, explaining the draw of a professional team in Miami. Before deciding on Miami as the franchise location, Beckham explored options in other cities, including Montreal, San Diego and Orlando, the person said. Miami has had a Major League Soccer team before. The Miami Fusion held matches in Fort Lauderdale from 1998 to 2001, before shutting down because of poor attendance. As a former Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder, Beckham hopes his star power will make a team work there. Beckhams management team said it is not ready yet to make an announcement about Beckhams franchise ownership option. ' ' '
METAIRIE, La. -- Saints assistant head coach Joe Vitt says Darren Sproles looked good in his first practice since breaking a bone in his left hand during a loss at Denver three games ago. Sproles is now practicing with a protective glove on the hand he injured on Oct. 28 and was listed as limited in Wednesdays practice. Vitt says Sproles will be evaluated throughout the week before the Saints decide if he can return at Oakland on Sunday to an offence that has improved lately in the running game. MIAMI -- Gaby Sanchez fell short in his bid for the first Miami Marlins home run at their new ballpark. He and his teammates celebrated anyway. Sanchez doubled off the base of the fence in the 11th inning to score Chris Coghlan from first base, and Miami beat the Houston Astros 5-4 Friday night. "It feels great," said Sanchez, a Miami native. "For me its great that happened. Id be just as happy for anyone else doing it." Coghlan started the 11th with a sharp single that deflected off pitcher Brandon Lyon (0-1) for an infield hit before Sanchez pulled an 0-2 pitch over the head of left fielder J.D. Martinez, and Coghlan slid home without a throw. The game was the Marlins first at home since manager Ozzie Guillen began serving a five-game suspension for praising Fidel Castro. Guillens remarks inflamed Cuban Americans, but there were no group demonstrations, and the stadium was about two-thirds full. "People want to come to the ballpark. Its a brand new toy," interim manager Joey Cora said. "Second, they want to see a winner. You win games, theyre going to come. Im confident thats what is going to happen." Announced attendance for only the second game in the 36,442-seat ballpark was 30,169. Miami native Martinez hit the first home run in the ballpark, a two-run shot for Houston in the eighth inning off Edward Mujica to tie it 4-all. But several other long drives failed to clear the wall. "It is a big place," Astros slugger Carlos Lee said. "We both hit the ball good today, and it didnt go nowhere. Its big for both teams." With the retractable roof closed for the first time, Lee and teammate Chris Johnson flied out to the warning track in the fourth inning. Omar Infante had a warning-track flyout in the 10th, and the Marlins have yet to activate the animated home-run sculpture beyond the centre field wall. "So far its a big, big, big, big ballpark," Cora said. "The ball Gaby hit, he crushed it. Hed better go to the weight room. Its going to be interesting to see what happens the rest of the year here, but right now its playing big." Miami newcomer Heath Bell, who blew his only save opportunity this season, survived a shaky ninth to keep the score tied. He retired the first two batters but then threw 13 consecutive balls to walk the bases loaded. Carlos Lee then tapped out on a check swing. Ryan Webb (1-0) pitched a perfect 11th. Marlins starter Ricky Nolasco needed 90 pitches to get through five innings but gave up only two runs. Houstons Lucas Harrell, coming off the best start of his career, lasted only four innings and allowed four runs. The Marlins took a 4-2 lead into the eighth, but Jed Lowrie singled to start the inning, and Martinez homered into the nightclub seating area in left field. "Words just cant describe it," said Martinez, who grew up a Marlins fans. "It was a great moment, but it would have been a lot better had we gotten the win." Martinez also singled and scored, and he has at least one hit in all seven Astros games. Infantes aggressiveness on the bases paid off for Miami in the third. He kept running from first on a grounder to third baseman Johnson, who ranged to his left and threw out the batter. When Infante kept going, Harrell scrambled to cover third, but the throw from first baseman Lee eluded him for an error, allowing the runner to score easily. Infante, who began the day leading the NL in total bases, went 2 for 5 and is batting .367. Sanchez came into the game batting .125 but had three hits. The game was the road opener for the Astros, who last year went 25-56 in away games, worst in the majors, and lost all four they played in Miami. MINNEAPOLIS -- After a strong start to the season, the Atlanta Hawks never thought theyd be in a fight to make the playoffs when April came rolling around. If they dont find a way to stop the tumble theyve been on before March closes, they could find themselves on the outside looking in. Gorgui Dieng had 15 points and 15 rebounds to continue his out-of-nowhere emergence, and the Minnesota Timberwolves dealt the slumping Hawks another costly loss with a 107-83 victory. "I think to a certain degree each guy has just got to find it in him," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said. "And I think the group has got to find the energy that the group can build. Weve spent most of this season playing with very good energy, so I think theres a lot of things we can pull on an reference to how we want to play and tonight would not be one of those nights." Paul Millsap had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Atlanta (31-39), which has lost four straight and has the New York Knicks right in their rearview mirror for the eighth and final playoff spot. Jeff Teague, who had averaged more than 23 points over the previous four games, went scoreless for the first time this season on 0-for-5 shooting. "I think we just didnt come ready to play," Hawks guard DeMarre Carroll said. "Once we started missing a lot of shots, then we lost our focus. At this time of year, you cant lose your focus." Corey Brewer and Kevin Martin each scored 18 points and Kevin Love had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Timberwolves. Minnesota scored 32 points off 26 Hawks turnovers and blew the game open in the second half. The struggling Wolves defence held Atlanta to 37.8 per cent shooting and had six of its 17 steals in the third quarter to start pulling away. With starting centre Nikola Pekovic out for the sixth straight game, Wolves coach Rick Adelman had no choice but to thrust the rookie Dieng into the first significant minutes of his career. Dieng has flourished with the added responsibility, posting double-doubles in five of the six games. He had 10 points and 13 rebounds in the first half, helping the Wolves weather an unusuallyy quiet night from Love.dddddddddddd "I dont care what the record is or where we are in the season, were trying to make them believe that we still have work to do," Wolves coach Rick Adelman said. "We still have to get better as a team and as individuals." The last time these two teams met, on Feb. 1, the Hawks overcame 43 points and 19 rebounds from Love to win for the fifth time in seven games. That put them at 25-22 and in third place in the Eastern Conference. But the Hawks have gone 6-17 since then, a slide exacerbated by injuries to Gustavo Ayon and Kyle Korver, who missed his fourth straight game with back spasms. Atlantas crumbling, combined with a surprising surge from the Knicks, turned a playoff spot that once appeared to be a foregone conclusion into anything but a sure thing. They led the ninth-place Knicks by three games for the final spot in the muddled East. And yet on Wednesday night it was the Wolves, who have essentially been out of the Western Conference playoff race for about two weeks and were completely deflated after a home loss to the Suns on Sunday, who played with the urgency and tenacity on defence of a team that needs every win it can get. "We needed a game like this in order to get our spirits up," Love said. "It was good for us. It goes to show you were down, but were not out." The Hawks had won five straight games after an ugly string of 14 losses in 15 games. But they dropped games to the Pelicans, Raptors, Suns and Wolves to allow the Knicks to creep back into the race. "Were a close team," Hawks forward Mike Scott said. "Weve been through a slump before. Its not good at all. But we know how to do good things, were professionals and were going to stick together." NOTES: Ricky Rubio had four points on 1-for-6 shooting, but he also had 10 assists and six steals. He had to leave in the first quarter to get 15 stitches in his upper lip after a collision with Hawks forward Mike Scott. ... Hawks F Mike Muscala, who played in high school in the Minneapolis suburb of Roseville, had eight points and four rebounds in 23 minutes. ' ' '

. That season- high run doesnt figure to be in danger tonight given their run of success versus the Edmonton Oilers. The Flames look to continue their domination in the Battle of Alberta this evening as they go for a 10th straight win over the Oilers.EDMONTON -- After an absence of more than a month, it was pretty clear that the Edmonton Rush were happy to be back at home on Friday. Zack Greer had three goals and an assist as the Rush hung on to pull off a much-needed 12-10 victory over the Philadelphia Wings in National Lacrosse League action on Friday. Derek Suddons had a pair of goals and Ryan Ward, Aaron Wilson, Corey Small, John Lafontaine, Brett Mydske, Shawn Williams and Tom Johnson scored the others for the Rush (2-4). Edmonton snapped a three-game losing skid after playing four straight on the road. "We didnt get the results on the road that we were looking for, so tonight was a big one for us and it built some momentum for us going forward," Greer said. "The league is so good with nine teams and we really needed this win. Everybody played really well from the goalie right on out. It was good." Kevin Crowley had four goals for the Wings (4-3), who entered the weekend atop the East Division standings. Other Philadelphia goals came from Drew Westervelt (three), Brodie Merrill (two) and Mike Hominuk. "Were a better lacrosse club than we showed tonight," said Wings head coach and general manager Johnny Mouradian. "We battled back very nicely but I think we ran out of gas in certain situations. I think they scored four or five transition goals. Thats just unacceptable." Merrill, playing his first game against the team he used to captain in Edmonton, said it was apparent the Rush wanted, and probably needed, the win more. "I thought the Rush played with a bit more urgency," he said. "Obviously they were hungry to get a win with the way things have been going and we didnt respond. We were all feeling a little bit of complacency in the locker-room. I think we overlooked them a bit. "Hats off to them. That was a big win for them. We thought we were past this. We play a couple of good games and then take a step back. We have to respond quickly." The Rush had a bad start to the game as Wings goalie Brandon Miller hit Merrill with a long pass for a short-handed goal just four minutes in as he bounced a shot past Bold. It wasnt until past the 10-minute mark that the very physical match saw its second goal as Edmontons Ward beat Miller up high to tie the game 1-1. Edmonton took a 2-1 lead on a Wilson goal with just 17 seconds to go in the first quarter.dddddddddddd The Rush went up 3-1 five minutes into the second quarter as Small picked the top corner while diving toward the net on the power play. The offence picked up considerably from there as Edmonton went up 5-1 on two quick goals, one a short-hander by Suddons. But the Wings came flying back with three goals to make it 5-4 at the half, two of those from Crowley. After trading goals to start the third, Edmonton went up 8-6 on Greers hat-trick goal with three minutes remaining. It stayed a two-goal game as each team had a goal early in the fourth, before Johnson put Edmonton up by three with an acrobatic diving goal. The Rush added to their lead with nine minutes to play on Suddons second of the game However, the Wings came flying back with a three goals by Crowley, Merrill and Westervelt in less than 60 seconds with five minutes remaining to make it 11-10. A late Philadelphia penalty would allow the Rush to get a disputed late goal from Williams and then kill out the clock for the narrow win. Rush head coach Derek Keenan was pleased with the way his team battled after a long absence away from home. "Turned the corner is a good way to put it because we turned the corner a lot and went to the net," he said. "We got some confidence on offence. We got a couple of transition goals that kind of got us going." The Wings next play on March 3, when they play host to Rochester. The Rush are off until March 9, when they are at home against Calgary. NOTES -- It was just the third-ever meeting between the two teams with each capturing a win in the previous two. It was their first meeting since February 2009. All three meetings between the Rush and Wings have been played at Rexall Place in Edmonton. ... The game coincidentally came one night after the NHLs Philadelphia Flyers made a rare appearance in Edmonton to play the Oilers. ... Wings forward Dan Dawson came into the game leading the NLL in assists with 34 and sitting second overall in scoring. He had 10-point efforts in each of his two previous matches. The Rush have never had a player hit the 10-point-in-a-game plateau. ... The Rush have missed the playoffs in five of their six seasons in the league. ' ' '
Contract negotiations between Henrik and Daniel Sedin and the Vancouver Canucks are set to begin on Thursday. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger says that the Sedins agent, J.P. The brothers are each due to earn $6.1 million this year in the final season of their five-year, $30.5 million contracts. Both are eligible to become unrestricted free agents next summer unless they are signed to new deals. Henrik Sedin had 11 goals and 34 assists in 48 games for the Canucks last season. Daniel Sedin had 12 goals and 28 assists in 47 games. The twins turn 33 on September 26. . Guay, from Mt. Tremblant, Que., clocked one minute 56.65 seconds down a Saslong course lined with huge jumps and filled with tricky terrain, making up time over the last few gates to edge Kjetil Jansrud of Norway by 0.INDIANAPOLIS -- Reggie Wayne used the story of a young injured man to send his teammates an emphatic message Saturday. There are no boundaries when you dream big. The Pro Bowl receiver who always makes a grand entrance to start training camp asked Indiana University Healths LifeLine helicopter to give him a lift and invited Matt Sercer, a Colts fan who severely injured his leg and foot in a farming accident in December, to come along for the ride. When they landed on an intramural field at Anderson University, Wayne stood side-by-side to be photographed with Sercer. "A lot of things were not expected of Matt to be able to walk again and things of that nature. But as you can see, hes here standing with me. Got out the chopper, he walked over," Wayne said. "Guys like Matt and stories like Matts, theyre the real heroes. It inspires you to go out there and do great and prove people wrong. A lot of people didnt think Matt would be able to walk again, and hes out here moonwalking with me." For Wayne, the special arrivals -- and the themes that come with them -- have become a regular part of the training camp routine. Last year, Wayne dressed in military fatigues and arrived as part of an Indiana National Guard convoy. He wanted his new teammates to take a page from the military manual by being supportive, selfless warriors who could overcome all obstacles, even those unforeseen. It turned out to be a fitting message as one of the NFLs youngest teams improved form 2-14 to 11-5 and reached the playoffs despite losing Chuck Pagano for 12 games as he battled leukemia. This years message was short and sweet. "I sat back and thought we got a pretty good team. I really think our team this year is better than last year. If we dont hurt ourselves, the skys the limit for us," Wayne said. "I really sat back and thought skys the limit, skys the limit, why not come in through the sky?" Guessing Waynes mode of travel to training camp has become a favourite game among teammates and coaches. It all started in 2002 when Edgerrin James Florida drivers license was suspended, so James and Wayne, teammates in college at Miami and then with the Colts, hired a taxicab to take them from Indianapolis to training camp about 75 miles away in Terre Haute, Ind. The cost was $200. The next year, Wayne and James drove a bus full of children onto the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology campus. When James left aas a free agent for Arizona in 2006, the torch was passed to Wayne, who began his solo act by wearing James new Cardinals jersey to training camp.dddddddddddd Since then, hes shown up in myriad ways and costumes. Until Saturday, though, he had not arrived through the air. This time, Wayne wore a black Lifeline flight suit, a red Washington Nationals cap and red high-tops but said emphatically that he did not fly the helicopter. Now that the fun part of camp is over, its time to get back to business. Indianapolis will hold the first of three weeks of workouts Sunday on the Division III campus about 25 miles northeast of Indianapolis. The early days are sure to come with some reminders about expectations and not just from Wayne and the veterans. Over the past month, three players ran into trouble off the field. Receiver LaVon Brazill and tight end Weslye Saunders were both suspended by the NFL for violating league policies -- and backup safety Joe Lefeged was arrested in Washington on a gun possession charge. Saunders was cut by the team Thursday after receiving an eight-game suspension for failing a performance-enhancing drug test for the second time in 18 months. Brazill will miss the first four games after violating the leagues substance-abuse policy. "I think youre always concerned and disappointed with problems, but at the same time, you have to realize that its an impossibility that youre going to have zero problems. Thats just not realistic, thats not the way life works," team owner Jim Irsay told The Associated Press earlier this week. "So were disappointed, but at the same time, we deal with it, and we move on and do the best you can to try and avoid any of those problems." Pagano is hoping the immediate focus will be on the field. The Colts are hoping a rebuilt offensive line will better protect Andrew Luck, a revamped defence will be a better fit with Paganos version of the 3-4 defence and that another year of maturation will help the Colts make a deeper playoff run. Meanwhile, Luck flew to South Florida for workouts with Wayne, Brazill and T.Y. Hilton, and returned to California so he could throw with Darrius Heyward-Bey and others before coming to Anderson. Lucks goal? "To get better and try to be the best quarterback for this team and what we need to put ourselves in chances to win games," he said. "Thats what we want to do." ' ' '
