Edmonton, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The Edmonton Eskimos will have Mike Reilly back as their starting quarterback today when they host the Montreal Alouettes at Commonwealth Stadium. Catch the action live on TSN at 3:30pm et/12:30pm pt. Edmonton, which had won only once through the first 10 games, had actually put together a two-game win streak with victories over Winnipeg in a span of just six days and appeared to be well on its way to extending that minor run last weekend as well. However, after allowing just a single point to Toronto in the first half and leading by three touchdowns in the third quarter, the Esks completely fell apart, surrendering 33 unanswered points in a 34-22 setback at home. The Eskimos saw Reilly exit in the second quarter against Toronto with concussion-like symptoms. Reilly did have one passing score before exiting. Backup signal caller Kerry Joseph completed 13-of-26 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown to Fred Stamps, adding a three-yard rushing score in the third period as well. Stamps, playing in his 100th career game, registered his 10th receiving TD of the season and also crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the fifth straight year. Marcus Howard logged three sacks for the Eskimos and now has nine sacks on the campaign, placing him fourth in the league in that department. As for the Alouettes, their season has been one disappointment after another. For a team that fired first-year head coach Dan Hawkins just weeks into the campaign, perhaps the biggest issue for the squad has been the loss of quarterback Anthony Calvillo. The leagues all-time leader in countless categories, Calvillo was placed on the nine-game injured list for precautionary reasons in early September, forcing the team to go in a different direction. Unfortunately, with Calvillo unavailable, the quarterback position has been handled similar to fantasy football, with changes made almost on a weekly basis. In addition to Calvillo, the Als have also positioned Tanner Marsh, Josh Neiswander and even Troy Smith under center, with results being marginal at best. Like Calvillo, Marsh is also on the injured list now as well. Last week versus visiting Saskatchewan, a team which was the most dominant in the league through the first half of the season, Montreal and Neiswander played just well enough to notch their fifth win of the campaign, a 17-12 decision. The signal caller converted 21-of-36 passes for 264 yards and a score, while Smith added a 54-yard toss to Jerome Messam for good measure. Duron Carter scored the only major of the game for the Als on a 45-yard reception, finishing the contest with six catches for a game-high 152 yards. Defensively, Montreal picked off three Darian Durant passes and recovered a fumble to keep the Roughriders from coming out on the winning side. Not surprisingly, the once prolific passing attack for the Alouettes has slowed considerably in 2013. Ahead of only Winnipeg when it comes to passing yards, Montreal has thrown for a collective 3,209 yards and 14 touchdowns, and at the same time watched 19 attempts get picked off. With the passing attack struggling, Montreal needs to find a way to kick the running game into gear, but thats simply not happening. In fact, in addition to tying for the fewest rushing touchdowns in the league with eight, the Als are at the bottom with regard to first downs produced running the ball (70), and are second-to-last in both yards per game (306.2) and scoring (23.2 ppg). Edmonton leads the all-time series with the Als by a count of 37-28-2, dating back to 1961 and taking into consideration only regular-season matchups. However, Montreal won the most recent battle back in July by a 32-27 margin and has taken seven straight from the Eskimos. Clyde Drexler Rockets Jersey

Those sentiments fit well with how unsuccessful St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter has pitched this season. Carpenter hopes to halt a personal three- start losing streak when he takes the mound tonight in the second contest of a four-game series versus the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium. Carpenters three-game losing streak has dropped him to 1-5 in 11 starts to go along with a 4.58 earned run average. He pitched well enough for the win in last Wednesdays 3-1 setback at San Diego, but the right-hander allowed three runs -- two earned -- and eight hits in a season-high eight innings. He also tied a season high with six strikeouts. Carpenter, the 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner, is 0-1 in four Busch Stadium starts in 2011, but is 4-1 with a 3.56 ERA in seven career starts against San Francisco. He defeated the Giants in the previous meeting on Aug. 21 of last season in 5-1 victory at St. Louis, as Carpenter allowed only one run over 7 1/3 innings of work. NL Central-leading St. Louis is looking for another type of performance like that one from Carpenter after youngster Kyle McClellan failed to keep the defending champions off the scoreboard in Mondays 7-3 loss in the series opener. McClellan was aiming for his seventh win of the season, but allowed all seven runs and seven hits in four innings. It was a tough game, said McClellan. [I] had the ball up and obviously the result is the home runs and not as many ground balls as usual. It was just a tough game from the get go. Albert Pujols entered Mondays game 4-for-24 at the plate and belted his ninth home run of the season for the Cardinals, who have alternated wins and losses over their last six games and kicked off a seven-game homestand on a sour note. Allen Craig had two hits and an RBI and Matt Holliday returned to his usual cleanup spot, finishing 1--for-4.dddddddddddd Holliday had been bothered by a quadriceps strain. Its nice to be able to get back out there, Holliday said on St. Louis website. Im here to play. Im not here to sit. The Cardinals will also host the Chicago Cubs for three games on the residency and fell to 14-10 in the Gateway City. San Francisco improved to 2-2 on a seven-game road trip with its series- opening victory over the Cardinals thanks to seven strong innings from Madison Bumgarner, who allowed two runs and six hits with five strikeouts. Ramon Ramirez allowed a run in the eighth before Sergio Romo closed the door in the ninth inning. Andres Torres led the offense with a grand slam during a five-run fourth inning, while Cody Ross added a solo shot for the Giants, who won for the second time in seven tries. Miguel Tejada had two hits and an RBI in a winning effort. It feels good, you know, Torres said of his first grand slam. Were trying to get our offense going, be patient and get a good pitch and you know, I was trying to stay back, and it feels really good. The Giants could be without center fielder Aaron Rowand Tuesday after he left yesterdays game with a bruised right hip. Ryan Vogelsong got his first taste of defeat the last time out and looks to get back in the win column tonight for the Giants. Vogelsong got the shaft in Thursdays 1-0 loss to Florida, as he delivered eight innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts and one walk. Vogelsong fell to 3-1 in eight games, six of which have been starts, to go along with a 1.77 earned run average. A product of Kutztown University, Vogelsong is 2-0 in four road games (3 starts) this season, but hasnt enjoyed much success against St. Louis as evidenced by his 1-4 mark and 8.49 ERA over 14 appearances (4 starts). San Francisco won two of three contests versus St. Louis by the Bay from April 8-10 this season. ' ' '
