TORONTO -- It took just two playoff games for Drew MacIntyre to accomplish what he couldnt do in 21 regular season games for the Toronto Marlies -- record his first shutout. MacIntyre made 25 saves as the Toronto Marlies beat the Rochester Americans 2-0 on Sunday in Game 2 of their American Hockey League first-round series. "A bunch of people were saying Im saving them for the playoffs," said MacIntyre, who joined the Marlies in February. "They always found a way a bunch of times. It was 20-some games and not one." Jerry DAmigo and Mike Zigomanis each scored their first goals of the playoffs to give Toronto a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five first round series. It was a much-improved performance for the Marlies, who managed to pick up a 6-3 win in the first game of the series on Saturday despite being outshot 34-18. "We started off strong, definitely coming off not as good a game as we wanted to (Saturday) so that was huge," said DAmigo. "That was huge coming out with (MacIntyre) having a great game, and a lot of other guys came out and contributed and had great games as well." Matt Hackett stopped 18 shots for the Americans. After MacIntyre almost single-handedly kept the Marlies in Saturdays game, head coach Dallas Eakins was pleased his goalie finally got that first shutout. "He gives our group confidence and just a sense of calm back there. Thats what you want from your goalie," said Eakins. "You want your goalie to give your team a real sense of calm knowing that hes going to make the saves that hes supposed to and once in a while hes going to make the saves that hes not supposed to." After a scoreless first period where the teams combined for only nine shots, Rochester succumbed to a discipline problem in the second. Toronto went on the power play on five occasions in the second and Zigomanis gave Toronto the lead on the third of those opportunities at 12:39. After DAmigos initial shot from the left side was saved, Greg Scott had the first chance at the rebound from close range but Zigomanis was there to bang in the second rebound. DAmigo put Toronto up by two goals at 1:45 of the third after the Marlies capitalized on some poor team play by Rochester. In his two seasons as a pro, the playoffs have been DAmigos time to shine. He scored five goals in the first round last season and has four points in the first two games this year. His two points on Saturday gives him 17 career playoff points, which makes him the Marlies franchise leader in playoff scoring. "Im trying to explain myself the same thing," said DAmigo of his post-season success. "I think its just the big games, the big atmosphere, how there might not be a tomorrow and you go series to series. I think I take it step by step in that sense and try to do my best." In the lead-up to DAmigos goal, Hackett had gone behind the net to play the puck and was challenged by the Marlies Greg McKegg. Hackett got the puck out to teammate Alex Biega who mistakenly knocked the puck right back behind the net. McKegg was the beneficiary on that play and he put the puck in front to DAmigo, who had the whole net to shoot at as Hackett was still stuck behind the goal. The Marlies went 1 for 8 on the power play while the Americans were scoreless in five opportunities. Toronto can clinch the series on Wednesday as the series moves to Rochester, N.Y. for Game 3. If necessary, Game 4 would be in Rochester on Thursday and Game 5 would be back in Toronto next Saturday. wholesale jerseys china. SAN DIEGO -- Yes, that was LaDainian Tomlinson taking a handoff from Philip Rivers on Saturday. Too bad it wasnt like it used to be, when Tomlinson would find either a big hole or the end zone. "We did a handoff for old times sake but it was at walkthrough pace so it wasnt full speed or anything," said Tomlinson, who retired 13 months ago and visited the San Diego Chargers training camp as part of his job with the NFL Network. New coach Mike McCoy asked L.T. to speak to the team after its first practice in pads. The former star running back then taped an interview with Rivers. "It was a great feeling, really," said Tomlinson, who played nine mostly brilliant seasons with the Chargers before finishing his career with two seasons with the New York Jets. "Mixed emotions because I started to get that feel of putting on the pads again but truly knowing that I dont need to put on pads anymore. Its over. But it was great seeing some of my olds teammates, really, Philip and Antonio (Gates) and Nick Hardwick and Eric Weddle. So many guys that I went to battle with and now seeing them as leaders of this football team." He said he talked to the players about making a commitment to themselves and each other, "and dont worry about what everybodys saying in terms of where the Chargers are going to finish in the AFC West. It really depends on what they want out of themselves and if they commit to each other and come to work every single day and think about each other, they will exceed expectations." McCoy replaced Norv Turner, who was fired along with general manager A.J. Smith after the Chargers missed the playoffs for the third straight season. "Its great to have a guy like that come in," McCoy said. "To have one of the greatest Chargers of all time speak to the team, he just talked about what it meant to be a Charger and how fortunate we all are to be here and kind of the way we need to approach the game." Rivers said Tomlinsons pep talk "was solid. He and I briefly talked and it was weird having him out here, not in uniform. It was more weird for him, I bet, just because its like going back in time, like, Yall still here? Hardwick, me and Gates, were still doing the same thing weve been doing. Hes great. It brings back memories seeing him out here." Rivers said it was a little different being interviewed by Tomlinson, "but it was cool. It was very comfortable because its a guy you stood there and talked to and handed the ball to many times." Tomlinson was the NFLs MVP in 2006. Hes fifth on the all-time list with 13,684 yards rushing and third all-time with162 touchdowns. His 145 rushing touchdowns are second-most in history. He also passed for seven touchdowns. Tomlinson signed a ceremonial one-day contract with the Chargers on June 18, 2012, and then announced his retirement. Tomlinson said he likes the change in regimes and that the Chargers have to improve on offence. Playing behind a dreadful line last year, Rivers was sacked 49 times and committed 22 turnovers, giving him 47 turnovers in two seasons. Running back Ryan Mathews, who replaced Tomlinson in 2010, was hurt and continued his fumbling problem. He ran for only 707 yards and one touchdown before finishing the season on injured reserve. "It seems to be a refreshing start. Everything is a new beginning for the Chargers and I think theyre approaching it that way," Tomlinson said. "Obviously the key is the rebound of the offensive line. They have to be able to protect Philip Rivers. Being sacked 49 times last year is way too many for your franchise quarterback. "If they can get their offensive line to jell, and if Ryan Mathews can stay healthy and give them some production in the running game, the defence is going to take care of themselves. Theyre going to be good," Tomlinson said. The Chargers rushed for only four touchdowns last year. By comparison, Tomlinson set NFL records with 28 touchdowns rushing and 31 touchdowns total during his MVP season of 2006. "The run game controls the entire game," Tomlinson said. "Whenever youre able to run the football and then put it in the end zone, that really wears the defence down. If youre not able to do that, typically things arent going too well for you. But I think its an area of focus for the San Diego Chargers, getting their running game going, getting Ryan Mathews going and I think they will have more rushing touchdowns this year." Mathews has had an uneven three seasons. "I think he would tell you hes at a crossroads in his career. I think this season is going to determine whether Ryan Mathews continues to be a Charger or if he moves on somewhere else," Tomlinson said. "I think he would tell you, absolutely he wants to be here. But has to make that commitment on the field, in the weight room, in the classroom and also, off the field. Tomlinson said hes impressed with Teo, the rookie from Notre Dame. "The natural leadership qualities obviously are there. I see a really bright guy that knows the game of football and has really great fundamentals. Probably not the most athletic linebacker, but he makes up for it because hes such a smart guy. I think Manti Teos going to have a really good, long career and I think hes going to do some great things for the Chargers defence." Tomlinson said the biggest adjustment for Teo will be playing on third down. "Thats the hardest thing for any rookie. Heck, it was hard for me when I first came into the league, because the game is different on third downs," Tomlinson said. "Its like its two separate games. Theres first and second downs, and then theres third downs. The different blitz packages, who hes covering, and remember, the Chargers defence, they play multiple coverages. Thats one thing that Manti Teos going to have to get used to is playing multiple coverages." Teo reportedly has the bestselling jersey among rookies. Tomlinson said he was at Disneyland last week and saw someone wearing a No. 50 Teo jersey. "It made me proud to see San Diego being represented in that way," Tomlinson said. Teo was in pads for the first time since Notre Dames blowout loss to Alabama in the BCS national championship game. "Its been a little while since weve all been in pads Its nice to get to concentrate on football," Teo said. "It feels good." where to buy cheap jerseys. Turns out, the searing pain was only temporary. Just like his teams slow start. Roethlisberger overcame a questionable shot to the knees to throw for 298 yards and a touchdown as the Pittsburgh Steelers rebounded from a horrific opening week loss with a 24-0 rout over Seattle on Sunday. "We made improvements, but theres still a long way to go for us," Roethlisberger said. The road, however, is a little bit shorter after the Steelers (1-1) toyed with listless Seattle (0-2). The Seahawks managed 164 yards and didnt take a snap on Pittsburghs side of the field until the fourth quarter while getting shut out for the second straight time in the Steel City. "Wed didnt score a point, period, and that is just embarrassing," said Seattle quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. An emotion the Steelers could identify with after getting rocked by rival Baltimore 35-7 a week ago. The loss sparked criticism that the defending AFC champions looked old on defence and undisciplined on offence while absorbing the franchises worst opening-day loss in 14 years. Though the veteran-laden club insisted it was too early to panic, it wasnt too early for a reality check, one which coach Mike Tomlin was only too happy to provide even after pushing the Seahawks around for 60 minutes. "I am still chewing on last week," Tomlin said. "I am sure we all are. Thats just the nature of this thing. Its not going to take one performance to take that stench off of us." Maybe, but the Steelers were eager to get back to business after what wide receiver Mike Wallace described as the longest six days of his career. He did his part, catching eight passes for 126 yards and a score to post his fifth consecutive 100-yard regular season game. The touchdown -- a perfectly thrown 2-yard fade by Roethlisberger -- and his 53-yard bomb both came in the third quarter not long after the franchise quarterback was face down on the turf after getting decked by Seattles Raheem Brock. The Steelers were driving late in the second quarter when Roethlisberger stepped up to complete a pass to Heath Miller. Brock dived at Roethlisbergers legs just as he let go of the ball, drawing a flag for roughing the passer and a gasp from the crowd. Roethlisberger, surrounded by his teammates, remained still while the trainers checked him out. He made it to his feet then gingerly walked to the sideline while backup Charlie Batch warmed up. Three players later Roethlisberger was back in the game, throwing an incompletion that forced the Steelers settle for a Shaun Suisham field goal and a 17-0 halftime lead. Though Roethlisberger wasnt 100 per cent, there wasnt much of an argument when he told Tomlin he was ready to go. "Its not anything mystical," Tomlin said. "We lean on the expertise of our medical staff. They were comfortable with where he was. He was comfortable." Or at least comfortable enough to pick apart a Seattle defence that spent way too much time on the field. Pittsburgh controlled the ball for nearly 39 minutes, ran 66 plays and would have made it even more lopsided if not for a missed field goal and an early goal line stand by the Seahawks. "I felt like we could have scored a lot more points than we did, but wee won the game and thats whats most important right now," Roethlisberger said.dddddddddddd Particularly for a defence that looked a step slow against the Ravens, who piled up 170 yards rushing and pushed the Steelers around. Seattle hoped to do the same thanks to the return of guard Robert Gallery, who missed the opener with an injury, but it never happened. The Seahawks had 35 yards on the ground, converted 2 of 12 third downs and let Jackson get sacked five times. "This is a process we are in and it is hard lesson to learn to come out here and go at these guys and really not accomplish anything at all on offence and getting knocked around some," said Seattle coach Pete Carroll. Pittsburgh wasted little time attacking, quickly moving deep inside Seattle territory before encountering a case of deja vu. The Steelers went for it on fourth-and-goal at the Seattle 1 when the Seahawks stuffed Rashard Mendenhall just before the goal line. The Steelers challenged the play, sending referee Bill Leavy under the hood for a second look. Leavy called Pittsburghs 21-10 win over the Seahawks in the 2006 Super Bowl, a game marred by what Leavy has admitted were a couple of bad calls against Seattle, including a dubious touchdown awarded to Roethlisberger on a quarterback sneak in which it appeared the ball might not have made it to the end zone. This time, there was no controversy. Mendenhall was stopped short of the end zone, but it was a brief reprieve for Seattle. The Steelers just kept coming, marching 60 yards on nine plays the second time they had the ball with Mendenhall bulling in from a yard out to put Pittsburgh on the board. Reserve running back Ike Redman made it 14-0 with an impressive 20-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and it was more than enough for Pittsburgh. The defence labelled "done" by at least one analyst a week ago swarmed the Seahawks, who are still searching for an identity now that longtime quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has moved on to Tennessee. Seattle played without wide receiver Sidney Rice, inactive for the second straight game with a shoulder injury. He might have helped, but likely not enough to keep Seattle heading back west winless. Jackson didnt turn it over but failed to make plays downfield. He completed 20 of 29 passes for 159 yards, his longest completion went for just 17 yards. Three Steelers had receptions of 19 yards or longer. "The biggest frustration is that were just better than what were putting on the field on Sunday," said receiver Mike Williams. "We just have to keep working." Notes: The Steelers have won nine straight home openers. ... Mendenhall needs 12 yards to pass former quarterback Kordell Stewart for 12th on the teams all-time rushing list. ... Pittsburghs Antonio Brown had a career-best 41-yard punt return in the second quarter. The drive ended with Redmans touchdown run. ... Seattle fullback Eddie Williams, starting in place of injured Michael Robinson, had his first career reception, a 9-yard grab in the second quarter. ... Carroll said hes optimistic Rice can play next week against Arizona. ... Seattles last score on the road against the Steelers came in 1999 when the Seahawks were still in the AFC West. ... Pittsburgh punter Dan Sepulveda had a career-long 66-yard kick in the third quarter. ' ' '

PITTSBURGH -- When Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma shuffled the lines in search of a spark for his slumping offence, putting Evgeni Malkin and rookie Brian Gibbons on the ice together wasnt what he had in mind. Still, hell take it. Gibbons converted a slick backhand pass from Malkin for his first NHL goal at 3:56 of the third period, starting a late burst as the Penguins beat the weary Anaheim Ducks 3-1 on Monday night. Called up from the minors 12 hours before the opening faceoff, the 25-year-old Gibbons was thrown immediately onto Pittsburghs third line. He ended up on the ice with Malkin after the Penguins were caught in the middle of a shift change. While watching Malkin do a full lap through the Anaheim zone, Gibbons sprinted to the slot, took the pass and sent a shot over Viktor Fasths right shoulder to break a scoreless tie. "I was just trying to get to the net and bang home a rebound or something," Gibbons said. "Somehow it ended up right on my stick." Gibbons earned his first NHL assist 62 seconds later when Brandon Sutter deflected Olli Maattas shot from the point past Fasth. Anaheims Ryan Getzlaf quickly pulled the Ducks within one, but Sidney Crosbys 10th goal of the season capped a flurry in which the Penguins scored three times in just over four minutes. The outburst was a welcome development for a team that for all its considerable offensive talent has struggled to score recently. The Penguins came in riding a 1-4 slump, scoring just one goal in each of the four losses. "It was actaully a good game for us," Bylsma said. "We wanted to be in that tight game and stayed the course and came through with a couple of big goals." Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 26 shots for Pittsburgh as the Penguins leapfrogged Washington to move back into first in the Metropolitan Division. The teams will meet in the nations capital on Wednesday. Getzlafs fifth goal in four games provided all of the offence for the Pacific Divison-leading Ducks, who earned just one point during a four-game East Coast road trip. Fasth made 24 saves but struggled in the final 20 minutes. "Im not seeing any secondary scoring from anybody," Anaheim coach Bruce Boudreau said. "When you dont have four lines contributing scoring its tough to win. I dont care how good the guys are, its tough to win." Anaheim totalled just six goals in four games during a swing through Florida, Tampa Bay, Carolina and Pittsburgh. "Weve been getting chances and stuff and weve been working hard, but like I said weve had sickness and injury throughout our team and we havent dealt with it well this trip," Getzlaf said. The Penguins have their own issues, particularly an offence that has looked spotty at best over the last three weeks. Bylsma decided to experiment. He moved Pascal Dupuis from the top line with Crosby to the second line with Malkin, replacing Dupuis with Beau Bennett. Jussi Jokinen, second on the team in goals, was bumped down to the third line to give Sutter a little help. The initial results were underwhelming. Then again, Anaheim had a little something to do with it. The Ducks, in the midst of their first rough patch following a brilliant start, dominated the first period. They clogged passing lanes, gave Pittsburghs talented forwards little room to freelance, and controlled play for long stretches. Pittsburgh didnt record a shot on Fasth until 2:02 left in the first period, when Bennett managed to redirect a pass from Crosby into Fasths chest. "Theyre a big team," Crosby said. "They got a long reach and they clog up the neutral zone pretty well." The arena roared in mock celebration, though for all of the Penguins offensive issues, the game remained scoreless thanks to Fleury. Starting for the 19th time in Pittsburghs 22 games, Fleury turned aside several early scoring chances, including a pair of opportunities by Getzlaf. The Penguins grew so frustrated at one point that Bylsma paired Malkin with Crosby and Chris Kunitz for a couple of shifts, looking to get something started It produced better flow but nothing that found its way by Fasth. Pittsburghs best chance came when Malkin skated behind the Anaheim net and deftly dropped the puck to a sprinting Kunitz, whose backhand shot banged off Fasth -- who wasnt looking because he thought Malkin still had the puck -- and then hit the crossbar before rolling out of danger. NOTES: Anaheim F Matt Beleskey returned to the lineup after missing 19 games with an upper body injury. ... The game was the 600th of Jokinens NHL career. ... MARIE, Ont.BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Lewis Hamilton of McLaren will start from pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix after winning Saturdays qualifying session ahead of Romain Grosjean and world champion Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton clocked 1 minute 20.953 seconds to put .413 seconds between himself and Lotus driver Grosjean, who achieved his first front-row start of the season for Sundays race. Red Bulls Vettel finished in 1:21.416, just ahead of Hamiltons teammate Jenson Button. "Its been a really positive weekend so far," said Hamilton, who was fastest in Fridays two practice sessions and second behind Mark Webber of Red Bull in Saturdays morning practice. "Still, we have a very long race tomorrow so lots can happen, but we just need to keep our cool." It was the third pole of the season and third pole at the Hungaroring, too, for Hamilton, who has one victory in 2012 and is fifth in the standings. "Its the same as everyone else when they win races," Hamilton said when asked about the secrets to his success in Hungary. "You just have to keep your head cool and make sure you look after your tires. Tire strategy is going to be important." It was the 150th pole position for McLaren, which contested its first Formula One race in 1966. The team has dominated at the Hungaroring in recent years, winning five of the last seven events. Hamilton triumphed here in 2007 and 2009, while Button -- who won his first race here in 2005 while racing for Honda -- is the defending champion on the famously winding Hungarian circuit, where passing is difficult. World championship leader Fernando Alonso of Ferrari was sixth, behind Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen. "We were expecting a very difficult qualifying and so it was," said Alonso, winner of two of the last three races.dddddddddddd. "All things considered, sixth place is not to be sneered at, far from it. Its true that overtaking is not easy here, but tomorrow it might rain and we know that can change everything." Rounding out the top ten on the starting grid were Ferraris Felipe Massa, the Williams duo of Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna, and Nico Hulkenberg of Force India. Alonso has 154 points after 10 of 20 races, 34 ahead of Webber, who will start from 11th place. Vettel is 44 points behind the Ferrari driver. Grosjean, a Formula One newcomer, was thrilled about beating Vettel for second place on the grid just as the checkered flag came down to mark the end of qualifying. "Being here on the front row is something special ... we know overtaking is very difficult," Grosjean said. "Well need to start from the front, weve said that for a long time, so first job done." Vettel, the two-time defending champion, was confident about achieving a good result on Sunday. "With the progress we made since this morning and through qualifying, I think we should be in a good position tomorrow for the race," Vettel said. "The car is quick and sometimes really quick but its a bit difficult to get it out of the car all the time." Michael Schumacher, a four-time winner in Hungary, had a disappointing run in his Mercedes and will start from 17th place, his second-worst qualifying spot so far this season. Sundays race at the Hungaroring leads into a monthlong summer break before the Belgian Grand Prix on Sept. 2. ' ' '

DETROIT -- Patrick Marleau helped San Jose start strong and finish well. Marleau scored a short-handed goal early in the game and the shootout winner, lifting the Sharks to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday night. "Its huge," Marleau said. San Jose, trying to earn home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, briefly moved into fourth place in the Western Conference before the Los Angeles Kings beat Colorado to move back ahead by a point. Detroit is in eighth place. Detroits margin is very slim. The Red Wings, clinging to the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, are hoping to extend the franchises streak of consecutive post-season appearances to 22. They have hurt their chances by losing five of seven. Detroit is just two points ahead of Phoenix, three ahead of Dallas and Columbus with Edmonton and Nashville lurking within striking distance. The Sharks and Red Wings are the only teams who have been in the playoffs every season since the 2004-05 lockout. "Anybody that has been in the playoffs knows theyre pretty special," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "You got to earn your right to play a playoff game." Antti Niemi made 27 saves through overtime and Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots for Detroit. Niemi got his glove on Niklas Kronwalls slap shot with 44 seconds left in the extra period, giving the Sharks a chance in the shootout and to earn a rare road win. The Sharks have won just seven of 19 games away from home, including just two of their previous nine. They had lost two straight overall, including a 4-0 setback at Columbus, after a seven-game winning streak. "Our road game has been lacking a little bit," Marleau said. "We came out strong in the first and showed a lot of resiliency in the third." Detroit, meanwhile, has won only one of its last six home games. The Red Wings looked like they might get a much-needed win and two points when Pavel Datsyuk opened the shootout with a goal, but Logan Couture slipped a shot between Howards pads to tie it. Damien Brunner then was stopped by Niemi and Joe Pavelski got a shot past Howard, but hit the post. Detroits Gustav Nyquist made a nifty spin move but was stopped by Niemi, and Marleau followed with the winner on a quick wrist shot. "Some of the saves he made were unbelievable," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "And the shootout saves were flat out brilliant." The extra goal and save, and the additional point that came with the shot and stop, puts San Jose five points ahead of Detroit in the standings. McLellan, though, said his team cant be satisfied with the cushion. "Were living day to day right now," McLellan said. The Red Wings start a four-game road trip Friday night at Chicago and return home to play three of their last four games of the regular season. San Joses road trip continues Saturday at Dallas and Phoenix before finishing the regular season with four of six games at home. At Joe Louis Arena, Marleau had a short-handed goal to put San Jose ahead 2:35 into the game. Detroits Justin Abdelkader tied it midway through the second period. The Red Wings took their first lead early in the third on Jakub Kindls first power-play goal and quickly lost it. Couture scored 1:31 later on a power play to make it 2-all. Detroit had a shot to get off to a good start when San Joses Tommy Wingels was called for boarding less than a minute into the game, but the Sharks took advantage of a giveaway. Henrik Zetterberg passed instead of shooting into a partially open net, Pavelski got in front of it, carried the puck deep into the Detroit on a 2-on-1 rush and perfectly set up Marleau for his team-high 17th goal. "We had lots of hockey to overcome that," Babcock said. Abdelkader scored on a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle to match his career high with an eighth goal midway through the second period. San Jose couldnt clear the puck early in the third, allowing Zetterberg to make up for his costly mistake by making a centring pass on Kindls go-ahead goal at the 2:29 mark. A little more than a minute later, Red Wings rookie Brendan Smith was called for holding and Couture took advantage of having extra space and an extra skater by tying the off a rebound. "Both teams played desperate," Zetterberg said. "Unfortunately, we couldnt really finish it off when we had our chances there in the end." VANCOUVER -- For the second straight week, Travis Lulay put on a show. But this time, he needed some help from his defence to make it count. The B.C. quarterback passed for 390 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as the Lions held on to beat the Toronto Argonauts 28-23. The strong performance followed his four TD passes in a blowout win over Montreal. Lulay extended his touchdown-pass streak to 22 games, moving into second place all-time behind Alouettes legend Sam Etcheverry. However the win was not secured until B.C. middle linebacker Adam Bighill recovered a Ricky Ray fumble in the final minute with the Argos threatening to take the lead. The turnover enabled the Lions to run out the clock after Toronto had advance to the B.C. 20-yard line. "The last offensive drive before the kneel-down, we had an opportunity to put the game away and we didnt do it, so hats off to our defence for holding strong," said Lulay, who completed 24-of-40 passes as the Lions (8-3) posted their sixth win in seven games. Lulay guided the Lions to 515 yards in net offence compared to Torontos 364. The Lions led most of the game but had to hold off the late Toronto rally after Chad Owens 52-yard touchdown reception with just over five minutes left in the game. B.C. got a reprieve when a 62-yard Spencer Watt pass-and-run touchdown was called back due to a holding penalty on Torontos Maurice Mann. "It wasnt good enough and were not into moral victories," said Argos head coach Scott Milanovich. "Were sick that we didnt get this one." Shawn Gore, Arland Bruce and Rolly Lumbala scored touchdowns for B.C., while kicker Paul McCallum supplied the other points with two field goals, a single off a miss three-point attempt and three converts. Cornerback Matt Black, off a fumble return, also scored a touchdown for the Argos (6-5), while Swayze Waters booted three field goals and a couple of converts. "We didnt give up an offensive touchdown all game and then it came down to (Owens touchdown) at the very end," said Lions head coach Mike Benevides. "It shouldnt happen but it did and the defence responded and got the big play we needed to. They did a great job of keeping a great quarterback down most of the game." Ray completed 19-of-38 passes for 311 yards as the clubs combined for 701 yards through the air alone. "We battled hard," said Ray. "We made a lot of mistakes, a lot of penalties and some things we didnt do well, but it was a 60-minute game. (We) just came up short." Toronto was assessed 132 yards in penalties just a week after racking up 257 penalty yards -- the second-highest total CFL history. Owens said the Argos would have won if not for untimely miscues. "We have to be more disciplined," said Owens. "Im not going to sit here and talk about penalties. It is what it is. We had an opportunity at the end to win the game and I truly believed we were going to win." After overcoming a 7-1 first-quarter deficit, B.C. took an 18-7 lead into the dressing room at halftime. But Toronto managed to stay close as Waters kicked a pair of third-quarter field goals to reduce its deficit to 18-13. McCallum hit a 43-yard field goal early in the third quarter to increase B.C.s advantage to 21-13. The Lions then caught a break as Watts touchdown was called back. But the Argos still produced a 36-yard field goal on the drive, pulling within five points. However, Toronto penalties helped the Lions reach the end zone for the decisive points midway through the fourth quarter. Facemasking, pass interference and illegal contact infractions gave the Lions the ball at the Argos one-yard line. From there, Lumbala plunged across the goal-line, staking the Lions to a 28-16 advantage before a Waters fake punt set the stage for Owens touchdown and Bighills game-saving fumble recovery. Bighills play came as his future as the starting middle linebacker was in doubt because of Solomon Elimimians return from the NFL. Elimimian watched the game in street clothes. But Bighill, a 23-year-old Montesano, Wash., native out of Central Washington University, downplayed the significance of his performance at a crucial time. "Whatever the coaches decide is going to win a championship, Im going to play my role to help this team win a championship," said Bighill. He also excelled on special teams as the Lions held Torontos return yards to just 26 yards on punts and 109 yards on kick-offs. B.C. slotback Geroy Simon, who returned after missing his first game in four years last weekend with a hamstring injury, had a strong night too, leading all receivers with six catches for 117 yards. He made key receptions on B.C.s last two touchdown drives as the Lions overcame their early deficit. "Slow starts dont matter," he said. "Its about how you finish." Note: Lulay is still a long way off from catching Etcheverry for the all-time record for consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Etcheverry threw touchdowns in 34 straight games between 1954 and 1956. ... Simon moved into third all-time in CFL receptions, passing Darren Flutie. The veteran Lions receiver now has 976 catches in his career. ... After switching his jersey to 44 from 50, Bighill bought a couple of jerseys bearing the new number for fans who had purchased ones with the original numeral. Each jersey cost more than $100. ... Addressing the media for the first time since his return, Elimimian said he was happy to be back but sidestepped the issue of his long-term future with the team. Ray is recuperating from a strained MCL that he suffered in the first quarter of a loss in Montreal on Sept.(Sports Network) - The fifth edition of the NHLs Winter Classic is on tap today, as the Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Rangers outdoors at Citizens Bank Park. This marks the first year that the Winter Classic, which began in Buffalo in 2008, will not take place on New Years Day. The NHL decided to schedule the contest a day later due to January 1 being an NFL Sunday. The Flyers will be playing in their second Winter Classic and first as host, while the Rangers are making their debut in the outdoor game. Philadelphia previously played Boston at Fenway Park in 2010 and lost a 2-1 overtime decision to the Bruins. Todays event was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. (et), but the start time was pushed back to 3:00 due to weather concerns. The league issued a statement on Sunday saying the switch was "based on tomorrows weather forecast and should offer optimal game conditions for players and fans." Still, the weather is not expected to be as big a factor a it was last year, when Washington beat the Penguins at a warm and rainy Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. Instead, todays forecast at the home of Major League Baseballs Philadelphia Phillies calls for temperatures in the low-40s with a low probability of precipitation. Last years contest was delayed several hours, but the temperature was still in the 50s when the game finally got underway after 8:00 p.m. This years Classic is also the second one to pit divisional opponents against each other. Chicago and Detroit -- both members of the Central Division -- played at Wrigley Field in 2009. The Rangers enter today leading the Atlantic Division with 50 points and Philadelphia is just two behind in second place. New York has won a pair of home tests against the Flyers this year, giving the Blueshirts four consecutive wins in the series. Philadelphia had won four straight on home ice versus the Rangers before New York notched a 3-2 shootout win on April 3 of last season. Rangers head coach John Tortorella announced before the game the Marc Staal will make his season debut at the outdoor game after recovering from a concussion. The Flyers recently ended a five-game road trip and are playing in Philadelphia for the first time since Dec. 17. Entering today, Philly has played 11 of its last 14 games away from the City of Brotherly Love. "To be here in Philly with our fans is certainly the place you would rather be. We miss them. We have been away for the whole month of Decembeer it seems, so its good to get back here and get a game in this environment," Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette said after Sundays practice at Citizens Bank Park.dddddddddddd. Both the Rangers and Flyers are coming off wins, but New York has been playing better hockey than Philly of late. The Blueshirts have won six of their last seven contests, while the Flyers have four losses in their last six games, including a 4-2 setback against the Rangers on Dec. 23. New York had a five-game winning streak halted Wednesday in Washington, but the Rangers rebounded with a 4-1 road victory Friday against the Florida Panthers. Brad Richards and Carl Hagelin each scored once and recorded an assist to lead the Rangers past the Panthers. Michael Del Zotto and Brandon Dubinsky also tallied for New York, while Henrik Lundqvist turned away 27 of the 28 shots he faced. "Tonight we had a great start and scored on pretty much every shot we took," Lundqvist said. "After that its about playing smart and taking care of pucks, and not trying to much because we dont have to." Lundqvist will get the start in net for New York today, but the Flyers are expected to go with backup Sergei Bobrovsky over the highly-paid Ilya Bryzgalov for a second straight game. Bobrovsky has clearly been the better goaltender of late, winning five of his last six decisions, while Bryzgalov is 0-3-1 in his last four starts and has allowed 16 goals over that stretch. Bryzgalov, who was signed to a nine-year, $51 million contract in the offseason, is 14-8-3 with a 3.01 goals-against average and .890 save percentage in his first year with the Flyers. Bobrovsky is 8-2-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .914 save percentage. Bobrovsky stopped 24 shots on Thursday to help Philadelphia record a 4-2 win in Pittsburgh. Ex-Penguins Jaromir Jagr and Maxime Talbot both scored against their former team to help the Flyers down their division rival. Jagr had a storied career in Pittsburgh as he played there from 1990 through 2001. Talbot had spent his first six seasons in the Steel City before signing with the Flyers as a free agent this summer. "It was a big game and personally it was nice for me and Jags to get the goal, but more importantly is that we got the two points against a team were going to be fighting for a playoff spot," said Talbot, who played in the Winter Classic last year for the Penguins. EDMONTON -- Ryan Ford stopped Canadian Nick Hinchliffe on Friday at an Aggression MMA 7 card plagued by cage issues. Plywood problems created gaps in the floor, causing one fight to be halted in a no contest and threatened the main event from even starting. Ford, who recently defeated Karo Parisyan, downed Hinchliffe of Nanaimo, B.C., with strikes in the third round of their contest. The fight was even until that point and many thought the stoppage was premature, as Hinchliffe appeared to be properly defending himself. The win was Ryan Fords fourth consecutive victory and improved his record to 16-3. The fight almost never began as the cage issues halted the fight and officials raced to repair it. The repairs proved temporary as Ford and Hinchliffe were forced to halt their bout at the two minute mark of the first round due to cage issues. Luke Harris and John Troyer were the combatants in the co-main event which was also stopped due to the cage problems. After 3:14, the commission called the fight off due to the hold in the floor. Prior to the two main fights, the cage was holding up fine. Steve Beaumont and James Haddad gave a Fight of the Night performance that ended in a unanimous decision in Beaumonts favour. Elmer Waterhen and Jason Gorny went toe-to-toe in an entertaining slugfest that was awarded to Waterhen by a close split decision. Also on the card, former Edmonton Eskimo Rio Wells rebounded from his first career loss with a submission victory over Mark Burns. Wells improved his career record to 5-1. After winning the last six races in North America, including the first three this year with rookie brakeman Chelsea Valois of Zenon Park, Sask., the 27-year-old Humphries continued her torrid pace by claiming her fourth straight gold medal of the pre-Olympic season. "I am very happy to keep the streak going in Germany," Humphries said. "I think that was very important for me. I havent always had a lot of success in Winterberg because it is so weather dependent here. The weather was perfect and we had good pushes and good runs today." It was Humphries eighth career World Cup victory to go along with her Olympic and world championship titles, bringing her career World Cup medal total to 15. "I had a lot of confidence going into the race, but the weather can change everything," she added. "Chelsea and I had two of our best starts to go along with two good runs down the track so Im happy with how things turned out." It was the fourth World Cup medal for the Canadian duo since teaming up last year. "We normally find the Winterberg track really difficult, but our runs worked out really well today," Rush said. "Id like to say a big thank you to my whole team." It was the fourth two-man, and eighth overall World Cup medal of Rushs career to go along with his Olympic bronze and world championship silver that he won with Lumsden last year in Lake Placid, N.Y. Switzerlands Beat Hefti and Tomas Lamparter won the gold Saturday with a time of 1:51.01, while Russias Alexander Zubkov and Dmitry Trunenkov took silver in 1:51.32. He has five goals in his last four games against Fulham at Old Trafford. "Every game is a must-win game. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told Yahoo Eurosport. "Its funny how when you come to the crucial part of the season, everyone tends to get fit again. We are delighted with that. It does help your cause without question having a full squad. It gives me variety. VANCOUVER -- Canadas womens soccer team still needs some work to do before it can share a pitch with the best team in the world. Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan scored two goals apiece to lead the top-ranked United States to a 4-0 victory over Canada in the CONCACAF womens Olympic qualifying tournament final Sunday. "I apologize for not doing what we could have done tonight," said Canadian squad coach John Herdman. "Theres certainly more to this team." With the win, the United States also claimed the CONCACAF championship. Both teams had already qualified for the London Games, but the U.S. continued its mastery over seventh-ranked Canada. The Canadians have not beaten the Americans since March 2001, and the U.S. has 42-3-5 advantage in games between the teams dating back to 1986. Canadas winning streak ended at 10 games. The hosts had hoped to use the game as strong lead-in to the Olympics, but showed they have a considerable ways to go to better the Americans. "It was one of them games where we started chasing shadows for a bit," Herdman said. "There are some challenges there. Weve got to look at ourselves first, the management team, and see what we can do better." Herdman shuffled his lineup because many of his players, tired after playing four games, "didnt have the legs." He said he picked the wrong lineup while U.S. counterpart Pia Sundhage picked the right one by going with "technicians" on her back line rather than physically dominant group. Wambachs goals were the 130th and 131st at the international level, giving her sole possession of second place in all-time scoring. Morgan assisted on both of Wambachs goals while Wambach assisted on one of Morgans before a record sellout crowd of just over 25,427 at B.C. Place. It was the highest ever for a CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament game and the second-highest for a womens game in Canada. "We had the whole nation captivated," Herdman said. "It was our chance to really bring it alive, and we just never did. We never really got into a rhythm. The Americans pressed us, and thats a great learning for us." Wambach got the upper hand on Canadian captain Christine Sinclair after they both entered the game with a chance to move into second place in all-time scoring. Wambach was happy to score after her historic goals in the championship game after the U.S. was upset by Mexico in last years World Cup qualifying tournament and had to go in through back door. "I think that those two goals were great goals for us, being that its in the CONCACAF finals," said Wambach. "We didnt win the last qualifying tournament, so this was a big game for us, and were really pleased with the result." Sundhage praised her defenders for holding Sinclair in chheck most of the night after she made a dangerous run just before the first U.ddddddddddddS. goal. "I dont think she had many touches or really had open time and space to do her thing," said Canadian defender Carmelina Moscato, adding the back line has to be able to get her the ball more often. The U.S. had 22 scoring attempts with 13 on target while Canada had just eight attempts with six on target. The Americans also had eight corner kicks, compared to just one for Canada. Christina Julien had three of Canadas scoring chances, but was robbed twice in the first half and once more in the second by American goalkeeper Hope Solo, who recorded her fifth consecutive shutout. The U.S. outscored its opponents 38-0 in the tournament. The Canadians said Morgans early opening goal ultimately led to the hosts undoing. Wambach headed a long ball towards the net and Morgan raced in on goal, and outmuscled pursuing Canadian defender Candace Chapman, sending her down to the turf. Morgan finished with a low shot inside the post. "It took the momentum out of everything, and I think it took the wind out of the crowd as well," said Canadian striker Melissa Tancredi. "I think after the second goal I could hear a pin drop." Wambach headed in Morgans cross in the 24th minute, colliding with Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod at the same time. The goal was the 130th of Wambachs international career, moving her into a tie for second place in all-time scoring with retired American star Kristiane Lilly. Four minutes later, Wambach gained outright possession of second in all-time scoring as she gave the put in Morgans short pass following a rebound off the post. Wambach said Lilly urged her via e-mail to go and ahead and surpass her for second, but make sure not to make the decisive goal a "toe-poke." Wambach said she was just so focused on the game that she forgot about the chance to move past Lilly until Morgan reminded her about it at half time. Morgan scored her second goal in the 56th minute as she took a long pass from Lauren Cheney, then eluded McLeod and Canadian defenders before putting in a turnaround shot. Herdman said his club has to get better physically, mentally and tactically. "Give us another six months and well make sure were ready for London," he said. Note: U.S. striker Sydney Leroux, a Surrey, B.C., native who holds dual Canadian-U.S. citizenship and has been criticized for choosing to play for the American side, was jeered as she came on as a sub in the second half. ... HOUSTON -- Courtney Lee scored 19 points, Zach Randolph added 15 and the Memphis Grizzlies held off the Houston Rockets for an 88-87 win on Friday night. Mike Miller drew an offensive foul to give Houston the ball back with 8.3 seconds left. But Patrick Beverley shot an air ball 3-point attempt under heavy pressure to give the Grizzlies the victory. It is the first win for Memphis over a Southwest Division opponent after it started the season 0-10 in the division. The victory ruined a spectacular night for Houstons Chandler Parsons. He had a career-high 34 points and made 10 3-pointers -- all in the second half. It is an NBA record for 3s in a half and a franchise record for 3s in a game. A 6-1 run by Memphis gave the Grizzlies an 88-84 lead with about two minutes left. Parsons made his 10th 3 to make it 88-87 right after that. He had his only miss of the second half a few seconds later, and Houston couldnt get him the ball on the last possession. James Harden set a career high with 13 assists, but had a tough night shooting. He was just 2 of 11 and finished with 10 points. The Grizzlies led by four points when Houston scored five quick points capped by Parsons ninth 3-pointer to take an 83-82 lead with a little than more than four minutes remaining. He was knocked to the ground by Tayshaun Prince as it left his hand and no foul was called. He looked angrily at the nearest official as the crowd erupted when it swished the net. Memphis outscored Houston 12-7 over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to take a 76-71 lead. Parsons hit his eighth 3-pointer of the game after that before a free throw by Jeremy Lin got Houston within one point. The Rockets scored the first 12 points of the second half to erase a nine-point deficit and take a 46-44 lead with about nine minutes left in the third quarter. Houston -- which had made just one 3-pointer in the first half -- had two during that run. They were both by Parsons, who was 0 for 3 on 3s in the first half. The Grizzlies had two turnovers and missed three shots during that run by Houston. Memphis finally ended its offensive drought with a 3-pointer by Prince after that, but Houston responded with a pair of 3s to push the lead to 52-47. Zach Randolph scored seven straight points after that to put the Grizzlies back on top 53-52. About a minute later, Lee scored the first five points of a 7-0 spurt to extend the lead to 60-55. Houston tied the game at 64-all entering the fourth quarter thanks to 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions by Parsons to end the third and leave him with six in the quarter. Memphis had a one-point lead in the second quarter when it used an 11-2 spurt to extend the advantage to 34-24 about 4 1/2 minutes left before halftime. Ed Davis scored six points during that run and Mike Conley added a 3-pointer. The Rockets missed five 3-pointers in that span as part of an 0-for-12 start to 3-point shooting on Friday night. Omri Casspi made Houstons first one with less than a minute remaining in the first half. They were 1 for 14 on 3s in the first half and trailed 44-35 at the break. The Grizzlies were up by seven points in the first quarter before Houston used a 12-6 run to cut the lead to 21-20. Dwight Howard started it with an alley-oop dunk and Lin capped it with a layup. Eight months after Cory Schneider was traded away, goaltender Roberto Luongo finds himself in another awkward situation with the Vancouver Canucks. Luongo will not get the start when the Canucks host the Ottawa Senators in the Heritage Classic at BC Place Stadium on Sunday. "I dont want to start going through this whole thing again," said Luongo, who has yet to start for the Canucks since returning from the Olympics. "Ive always wanted to play in an outdoor game so I was excited when I saw that we got one this year. I was looking forward to it." "I believe Roberto Luongo feels this is somewhat of a slap in the face," said TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. "Almost a year ago, he fought hard to get out of the Canucks organization and hoped for the same in the summer and that didnt materialize. You have to think this is going to amplify the hard feelings that may continue to exist between Luongo and the coaching staff and by extension, the management of the Canucks." Eddie Lack, who has started both Canucks games since the Olympic break, has allowed just one goal in a shutout win over the St. Louis Blues and a shootout loss to the Minnesota Wild. "You also have to look at it from the prespective of head coach John Tortorella," added Dreger. "He doesnt care about the spectacle of the Heritage Classic, he cares about the two points on the line. Eddie Lack has been lights out good for the Canucks in the past couple of games. This is not a popular decision and I predict that this going to add to why this relationship between the player and the organization wont end well." "VAN obviously went into this eyes wide open and believes upside of Lack starting over Luongo outweighs downside of accompanying controversy," said TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie on Twitter (@TSNBobMcKenzie). "I dont believe for a moment this decision to start Lack is related to any imminent Luongo trade possibility." wholesale jerseys from china. The Calgary Stampeders O-line has been one of the most potent in the Canadian Football League this season, helping propel the team to Sundays 100th Grey Cup game versus the Toronto Argonauts.(Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Penguins staved off elimination in dominating fashion last time out and theyll put their survival instincts to the test again tonight when they host the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 5 of a wild Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. You can watch the game live on TSN and TSN Mobile TV at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt and join our Game Night Blog to get playoff updates. The fourth-seeded Penguins dug themselves a 3-0 hole in this best-of-seven series after losing the first three games to the Flyers by a combined 20-12 margin. However, Pittsburgh roared back with its first win in Wednesdays Game 4 at Philadelphia, taking a 10-3 decision at the Wells Fargo Center. With their lopsided win in Game 4, Pittsburgh became the first team to reach double digits in a postseason game since Los Angeles recorded a 12-4 win over Calgary in the spring of 1990. The Pens and Flyers also have combined for 45 goals in this best-of-seven set, breaking the NHL record for the highest- scoring playoff series through four games. Jordan Staal registered his first career postseason hat trick, while Evgeni Malkin scored twice and assisted on another goal to lead Pittsburgh to its decisive Game 4 victory. Sidney Crosby and Steve Sullivan both had a goal and two assists for Pittsburgh, which tied a franchise playoff record for goals in a game. Pittsburgh also beat the Flyers by a 10-7 score in Game 5 of the 1989 Patrick Division finals. "We needed it from the big guys and they certainly were there," said Pittsburgh head coach Dan Bylsma. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 22 of Philadelphias 25 shots to post the win. It was easily the best performance of the series for Pittsburghs No. 1 netminder, who was pulled in Sundays 8-4 loss at Philadelphia. Pittsburgh won on Wednesday despite missing three players due to suspensions stemming from a fight-filled Game 3. Two of those players -- forwards James Neal and Craig Adams -- will be available for tonight after receiving one-game suspensions, while Arron Asham was banned for four games for cross-checking Philadelphias Brayden Schenn in the throat. The return of Neal, who had 40 goals during the regular season, is particularly significant for the Penguins. "When we got up by four goals I was OK. It was a different nervousness in the press box watching. Not a feeeling that you like to have," Neal said of being a spectator for Game 4.dddddddddddd Claude Giroux, Kimmo Timonen and Jakub Voracek each scored a power-play goal in the first loss of the series for the Flyers, who were bidding for their first sweep since ousting the New York Rangers in the 1995 conference semifinals. "We werent too sharp tonight. Maybe we thought it was going to be easy tonight in front of our fans," Giroux said. Ilya Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky both surrendered five goals on 18 shots. Bryzgalov, the Flyers No. 1 netminder, will get the start again tonight despite posting a 4.96 goals-against average in four games during this series. "It was a wild game. We didnt expect to lose like that and we wanted to finish the series tonight. They came out strong," Bryzgalov said. The Penguins are trying to become just the fourth team in NHL history to win a series after losing the first three games. Of course, the last team to pull off the 3-0 comeback was the Philadelphia Flyers, who did it against Boston in the 2010 conference semifinals. However. Philadelphia has never even blown a 2-0 series lead in its history, posting a 17-0 record all-time when winning the first two games. "It doesnt get any easier from here," Crosby said. "We did a good job of hanging in there and we expect the same effort from ourselves and know that they are going to be hungry to finish things off, too." This series marks the sixth all-time playoff meeting between the Flyers and Penguins. Philadelphia won the first three matchups, but Pittsburgh has taken the last two postseason encounters. The last series was in the opening round of the 2009 playoffs and Pittsburgh claimed that set in six games en route to their most recent Stanley Cup title. On the injury front, Flyers defenseman Nicklas Grossmann could miss tonights game after suffering an upper-body injury in Game 4. However, Philadelphia forward James van Riemsdyk could play this evening for the first time since breaking a bone in his left foot on March 1. Van Riemsdyk had 11 goals and 13 assists in just 43 games for the Flyers this season, but he had seven goals in 11 playoff contests last year. For Pittsburgh, defenseman Paul Martin sat out Wednesday with an undisclosed injury and is questionable for tonight. ' ' '

Helton started his final homestand with a key single in the eighth inning that helped the Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 on Monday night. Charlie Blackmon had three hits and drove in three runs for the Rockies, who prevented the Cardinals from taking over sole possession of first place in the NL Central. They remained tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who lost 2-0 to San Diego. "We are aware of where we are," St. Louis outfielder Matt Holliday said. Matt Carpenter and Matt Adams had two hits each for the Cardinals. Helton was playing in front of Colorado fans for the first time since he announced his plans to retire at the end of the season, his 17th. He went public Saturday when the Rockies were in Arizona, and Monday afternoon the team held a formal press conference. Helton talked about his future without baseball during the day, but he was all business during the game. He received a standing ovation when he came to the plate in the first, and Cardinals starter Lance Lynn stood behind the mound and waited as the crowd saluted Helton. The first baseman was given a loud ovation in each of his four plate appearances. His night started slow, but he had a big hit during the decisive rally. Troy Tulowitzki led off with a walk against reliever Trevor Rosenthal (2-4), and one out later Helton singled to centre to put runners at the corners. Wilin Rosario singled to give Colorado a 3-2 lead. "Todd had a huge hit. That was a huge hit in that inning," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "I dont expect anything different. I think hes going to have a huge homestand." Helton was caught in a rundown between third and home for the second out, but Blackmon doubled to right to score Josh Rutledge from first to make it 4-2. Pinch-hitter Ryan Wheelers two-run single off John Axford gave the Rockies a 6-2 cushion. "I had a pitch that could have been a double play and it turned out to be a flare into right field," Axford said. The four-run eighth was a rare misstep by the Cardinals bullpen.dddddddddddd. "Overall our bullpen has been very, very good," manager Mike Matheny said. "They will bounce back." Collin McHugh started for Colorado in place of lefty Jorge De La Rosa, who has a sore thumb on his pitching hand that forced him to miss his turn in the rotation. McHugh allowed one run and four hits, with the only damage coming on David Freeses RBI single in the fifth. He left after throwing 75 pitches in five innings. Lynn stuck around longer and got stronger as the game progressed. He scattered four hits through six innings and didnt let a runner past first after Tulowitzkis first-inning double before running into trouble in the seventh. After Lynn retired Helton in a nine-pitch at-bat, Rosario singled and moved to third on Rutledges bloop single to right. Left-hander Kevin Siegrist relieved Lynn, and Blackmon lined an RBI single over the pulled-in infield to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead. "He throws really hard so I was trying to catch up to a fastball," Blackmon said. "I knew that was going to be a tough at-bat, just trying to battle from the start and get a good swing on it." The Cardinals tied it in the eighth on Carpenters RBI double off Chad Bettis (1-3) that scored pinch-runner Pete Kozma from second. The Rockies took a 1-0 lead in the first on Tulowitzkis RBI double.
