Two men are facing multiple charges after an investigation into an alleged sexual exploitation ring involving teenage girls at the New Westminster SkyTrain station, Transit Police announced on Friday.
According to police, Dominik Matthey Vendette, 26, and Thomas John Robert Gain, 20, recruited vulnerable young women, some as young as 14, promising them money, drugs and movie roles in exchange for sex.
Chris Preston of Pacific Community Resources, a nonprofit that often works with atrisk teens in Metro Vancouver, says his group frequently sees vulnerable young people hanging out at transit hubs, and that the victims in this case were specifically targeted.
"There are obviously youth that are out on the SkyTrain that are very transient. We proactively seek out youth that might need a connection back to their communityyouth that are either homeless or don't have a great home situation," said Preston.
The accused were arrested following an investigation launched in September, after an incident in which a Transit Police officer was forced to intervene in a confrontation between a young man and a 14yearold girl on the platform at the New Westminster SkyTrain station.
Police know of at least two victims, both 14yearold females, who were sexually exploited by Vendette and Gain. One of those young women is currently recovering from a sexual assault, while the other was recently hospitalized due to a drug overdose.
Investigators think there are other victims and are asking those individuals to come forward.

Nemo's Bar and Grill
If you are looking for a place to tailgate before the game and want to avoid the crowd at Eastern Market, check out Nemo's. The tailgating area is fenced in, has port a potties and a great crowd. If the lot is full, check out the houses behind Nemo's. They open their yards up for people to tailgate and will keep an eye on the vehicles during the game. The prices are also much cheaper than parking close to the stadium. With the frequent shuttles to and from the stadiums downtown, you get cheap parking and door to door service.
The bar itself is a great little sports bar. The food is nothing out of this world but it is everything you want in bar food.
Stopped by for carryout. Couldn't get anyone to take my order at the bar for several minutes, even though there were 3 people standing behind the bar doing nothing. Food was forgettable. Complained to the manager via email and explained everything in detail, no response. I'll never go back.
It's interesting how there's some ridiculous comment on any Restaurant Review site if you say anything negative about Nemo's. I highly suspect they're being made by a Nemo's employee. For my (above) comment they said it's a bar, so what do I expect? Well, I expect (Good) Service!
It's apparent that Nemo's feels justified in any customer service they provide, even if it's bad, or in my case Nonexistant!

Nemo's on Michigan is the best way to go to the game. Tigers, Lions, Redwings their shuttle bus rides are only $3.00 per person round trip and that includes free parking in their lot behind the bar. The burgers are big and very affordable. Burger and Fries $7.00. Draft beer is $5. They have very limited seating but mostly it's for the game crowd waiting to get on the bus. All you would expect from an old sports bar. I recommend for a cheap pre or post game meal.

So Very close to where Tiger Stadium once was . Nemo's is steeped in rich Tigers tradition . Many fans have met both pre and post game here . They offer great burgers, soups and solid food for the fans . Don't expect this to be four star service . The Cheeseburger is one of the best in town . They have a good selection of domestic drafts and still offer Stroh's . Ray Ban DX300 Cheap The walls are covered with Tiger and Redwing photos from years past . THey also have parking in a secured lot and will drop you off at the game . Once the game is over catch the shuttle back and grab a nightcap .
I've been to Nemo's twice. The first time I enjoyed the food I ordered (though the menu was very limited) but received bad service. I ordered my food and a beer and the bartender, after serving me, did not inquire about whether I would want anything else, although I remained at the bar eating and nursing my drink for at least thirty minutes.
The second time the issue was not service but cost. Nemo's, on game night, charges $5 for a Labatt Blue in a bottle, which is about 2/3 more than it will cost at most other bars. Unless being in Corktown is a prerequisite, I would recommend Stempien's cheapsunglassesstore.co.uk/versace-sunglasses66 Sidestreet Lounge as a unique, reasonably priced, and personable alternative.
I would, however, recommend using Nemo's shuttle for games at Joe Louis Arena, as it costs only $2 and leaves relatively frequently. But other needs can be served at other places.

Bracing for trouble before Air Jordan release http://www.cheapjordans.us/air-jordan-retro-112012/air-jordan-retro-1214
WASHINGTON (WUSA9) If you're into sneakers, you probably know what's coming Saturday morning.
Nike releases its Air Jordan www.shrachi.com/profile.html 11 Gamma Blues. And already some worry trouble will again follow the shoes.
"These are the Gamma Blue 11s," says Vic at Kickk Spott in Georgetown, showing off one of the couple of dozen pairs someone dropped off for consignment at the store two weeks ago.
"I'm going to line up. I'm going to line up right here," says Sean Royster, 17.
Every year at this time Nike puts out a new edition of the sneakers. And most years there's trouble cheap jordans retro 13 somewhere. People shot, stabbed, robbed for shoes that sell for $185 at retail and far more at consignment shops and EBay.
"I'll be here with my people," says Royster. "I feel safe. Not scared."
DC artist Sidney Thomas is so worried about the violence, he's created a series of photos showing him destroying a collectable pair of Air Jordan "Breds." "This is actually a new one," says Alex Gonzales a manager at Kickk Spott, admiring one of the photos. "He cut it in half. He's got the Jason mask on. If he's going for that whole violence, kill the violence. That's great. And this is the shoe that's doing it every year. So he's got the right idea."
Fans say these shoes can be a great investment. LeBron 10s sold for $250 at retail in very limited quantities. They're now selling cheap jordans retro 11 for ten times that.
Still even some buyers have a hard time explaining it. "Ridiculous, ridiculous," said Kim Baugh, shopping for sneakers for her teenager. "But the sad part is parents like me are always looking out for 'em."
Most stores these days give out tickets beforehand that give you the right to buy a pair of Jordans cheap jordans retro 14 when they come out. That's helped reduce the madness.

How America exports inmates to private prisons
prisoners are currently being held in private prisons hundreds or thousands of miles away from the states that sent them there, according to a new report from the progressive group Grassroots Leadership. "These transfers allow states to avoid making common sense reforms."
Grassroots Leadership, a group committed to ending private prisons and reducing overall incarceration, notes that four states currently entrust their inmates to facilities in other states, all run by the for profit Corrections Corporation of America (CCA). This year, Vermont sent prisoners to Arizona and Kentucky; Idaho sent prisoners to Colorado; California sent prisoners to Arizona, Oklahoma and Mississippi; and Hawaii sent prisoners to Arizona, about 2,900 miles away.
Kirby was joined Wednesday by interstate transfer critics including Danielle Rigney, the mother of a California inmate who was shipped to Arizona Mike Dunleavy Red Jersey in July. Before that happened, she told reporters, "he continued to have hope for the future" and "was able to watch his sisters grow up, share in our joys and our sorrows." Now, she said, "because he is 15 hours away, each trip costs close to $1,000" and "his father hasn't been able to visit." Rigney added,"I can truly see him becoming institutionalized we are losing touch. We are losing the battle When my young son was arrested, he was a boy. He is now a man."
The Grassroots Leadership report, Up Shipped Away: Interstate Transfers and the Private Prison Industry, argues that such transfers are "diminishing prisoners' ties to family and community" while they "serve the interests of an industry that views prisoners as commodities and perpetuate our nation's mass incarceration crisis." Kirby charges that "With little public scrutiny, state officials have pointed to overcrowding as justification for sending incarcerated people to out of state prisons, rather than prioritizing decarceration and sustainable alternatives to incarceration to address prison overcrowding."
The report includes the story of a prisoner, not identified by name, who "said he had no clue what was happening when officers came into his Vermont cell in the middle of the night, told him to get up and grab his things, and refused to answer when asked where he was going. Shackled to the person next to him, he endured the 36 hour bus ride, still without any idea where he would end up." The man called the practice "horrendous," and said "you're taking people who, whatever support network they may have, is gone."
Asked about the report, CCA public affairs manager Mike Machak emailed, "We are proud that we've been one of the very beneficial tools that state policy makers have used to address prison overcrowding that the federal courts have deemed unconstitutional." Machak said the company "firmly believes we have the opportunity and responsibility to help inmates develop the skills and values they need to be successful when they leave prison." He added, "The inmates entrusted to our care are housed in state of the art facilities with access to rehabilitative programming such as adult education, vocational training and substance abuse treatment."
Critics painted a very different picture. Monica Hopkins, who directs the ACLU of Idaho, described a "horrid history we have over 16 years of transferring inmates out of state, to facilities where we found abuse and poor living conditions, squalor, understaffing and deaths including suicide and deaths within facilities that couldn't be monitored because of a lack of transparency, because quite frankly, they were out of state." Hopkins told reporters she found it "shocking" that Idaho would continue to keep prisoners in CCA facilities after the company "have been held in contempt of court and are actually leaving our state."
The Grassroots Leadership report recommends Mike Dunleavy Jersey that state lawmakers ban "the exportation of incarcerated people," and instead "prioritize strategies to reduce prison populations " In California, which according to the report currently has more of its prisoners out of state than the other 49 states combined, Californians United for a Responsible Budget statewide organizer Diana Zuniga told Salon that Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown's administration has "a huge responsibility" to effect reform. Given a Supreme Court ruling that the state's prison conditions violated the Bill of Rights, and a finding that expanding "good time" custody credits could cut the prison population by 20,000, Zuniga said, "The responsibility is really on the administration right now to move forward on those reforms, or to continue to have people in out of state facilities and continue to expand the system."
Asked about the report and Zuniga's critique, state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation press secretary Jeffrey Callison emailed that "California would strongly prefer to have none of its prisoners housed out of state," but "the continuing prison crowding court case has made it all but impossible for California to follow through on its plan to end the out of state program on schedule" by 2016. While a September bill signed by Brown "does allow for more inmates to be sent out of state," said Callison, "it is important to note that sending more inmates out of state is considered to be the very last resort." Callison argued it "takes a selective reading of the facts to assert that Governor Brown and his administration bear a 'huge responsibility' for the fact that the out of state program continues." He added that Michael Jordan Red Jersey Brown "has repeatedly said that he has no intention of approving the early release of thousands of inmates. On the scale proposed, that would necessarily involve the release of more serious offenders, which would place a burden of local law enforcement, courts, jails and probation."
The actress, who'd been a lightning rod for both praise and controversy on the back of her comedy series "Girls" in 2012, rung in 2013 with a pair of Golden Globes for best actress in a comedy and best comedy series. She's nominated in both categories again, but Season 2 was a far less universally accessible thing; it went, in its 2013 season, from a show addressing the general malaise of Greenpoint post grads to an exploration of a very particular protagonist. She also wrote for the New Yorker a lot. Russell's comedy "Silver Linings Playbook." In 2013, she played to her strengths: After winning an Oscar, she starred in the second "Hunger Games" movie, on whose publicity tour she managed to charm everyone in America, and had another role in a David O. Russell comedy, "American Hustle," for which she might just win ANOTHER Oscar. By 2014, she may end up running a major studio, or serving as president.

For the third year in a row on Teacher's Day in Brazil, I try to post something inspiring for teachers who sometimes struggle with all the difficulties inherent in our career. This year, I decided to post a video which is truly inspiring and which goes beyond approaches and techniques for the classroom, instead, it talks about human connections and relationships.
Cultura Inglesa Madalena Teachers at ACINNE Conference.
I've just spent three days in a conference for English teachers in my hometown, Recife. I was inspired by other teachers who shared their knowledge and classroom experience with other teachers. I was also pleased to see that so many teachers, including teachers from Cultura Inglesa Madalena, where I work, decided to spend a long holiday listening and learning with other teachers.
The video below is from a TED talk given by an educator who has been working for over 40 years. Rita Pierson has spent her entire life in or around the classroom, having followed both her parents and grandparents into a career as an educator. For Rita, everyone has been affected by a teacher or an adult in their lives.
She suggests that "teachers should first seek to understand as opposed to being understood." And then she gives the example of her mother who was an educator all her life and left a legacy of connections and relationships that could never disappear.
"Teachers become great actors and we come to work when we don't feel like it, but we teach anyway. We teach anyway because that's what we do."
I believe teaching is all about relationships and truly connecting with learners. It is difficult to see education happening when this bond doesn't work or there is a gap to fill or a bridge to cross. One of the main roles of educators is to bridge this gap and reach Scottie Pippen Red Jersey learners who, due to external factors, are left aside in the learning process.
As Rita concludes: "Teaching and learning should bring joy. Is this job tough? You bet ya. But it's not impossible. We can do this, we're educators. We were born to make a difference."
Not having your job is actually a dangerous thing because it gives you less reason to take a leap, and to really change your world for the better you have to step outside of your comfort zone. Fortunately, eventually I lost interest in the whole "real job" thing and I started to question what I really wanted to do with my life.
I knew that I wanted to travel the world is just too beautiful not to want to see it all. So I took a breath, handed in my notice and took my wife away for a year we would never forget.
First stop: Thailand, Asia After Authentic Taj Gibson Jersey that, who knows?
So my wife and I went on our travels. At this point we were just relying on savings we didn't have any plans for when we got back, but sometimes you just have to suspend planning and focus on right now.
We enjoyed the travelling immensely and we did our best to get involved in the culture. We picked up volunteer work every now and then too.
So where did TEFL teaching come into it? Well quite simply; 6 months into our trip and we knew that we didn't want to come home and settle back into "regular life" not just yet anyway.
A bit of research later and becoming TEFL teachers became the obvious choice
So we found an online TEFL course and trained http://www.bullsteamproshop.com/taj_gibson_jersey.html remotely
Getting your first job can be pretty daunting, but we had one big advantage because we were already in Asia which meant we could actually go and meet the teachers and see the schools. We based ourselves in Kuala Lumpur (we had found our way down to Malaysia by this point) and after a lot of searching we found a great school to work at.
TEFL is a great way to see the world because you can literally take your career anywhere you like. We used to think of it as a way to spend a year or two travelling, but the reality is that you can actually make a career out of it.
My wife is now training to be a regular Teacher, but that doesn't mean we have to settle down. In a year or two the plan is to go and live in Europe for a year and do some more teaching and after that, who knows?
What I have realised as a result of our travels is that whilst working as a TEFL teacher may not ever lead to an executive career, it gives you the opportunity to do something amazing, and when you do eventually decide to settle back down, there are always teaching opportunities back at home.
My name is Robert Oakden, I am a traveller and world citizen. I now work for ICAL TEFL, who provide online TEFL courses. And I will almost certainly be jetting off somewhere amazing in the near future!
Last week I watched a TV show on National Geographic where they showed lion cubs bullsteamproshop.com/tony_kukoc_jersey.html learning how to hunt. Not only I found out that lions also hunt elephants and giraffes, but also that cubs go through a period of experimentation, which lasts from 1 year and a half to two years, where they are expected to learn how to hunt. When they are playing with their siblings or observing other members of the pride hunt, they are learning how to hunt through failures and achievements.
This experimental period, essential to the life of lions, is also an important period for professionals, not to mention English language teachers. With the number of offers for teacher training courses increasing both face to face and online, together with various opportunities to connect and share knowledge online, teachers end up tempted to invest more and more in their careers. This lack of thinking and planning is often led to teachers signing up for a new course right after finishing another. I believe this happens due to career plans provided by schools which overvalue certificates and degrees more than experience and actual teaching practice. In the end, in order to go up the career plan ladder, teachers dive in various courses leaving little or no time to develop the content of these courses.
As an academic manager, I receive many CVs from teachers who want to take part in the recruitment process. One of the crucial factors to invite a teacher to move on in the process is the amount of teaching practice after obtaining degrees and certificates. During a face to face interview I ask candidates the variety of groups they have taught and why they decided to take up a specific course and how much practice they have had after that course. After all, why take up a course on TEYL (Teaching English to Young Leaners) if you teach mainly adults and have no interest in teaching YLs?
If I could give any tips to teachers thinking about taking up a course on teaching YLs, Business English or Advanced Methodology, I'd say: look back, analyze what you've done, the knowledge you lack and opportunities ahead. Ask yourself how much time and effort you will need during the course and plan your following semester in order to digest this knowledge. Give yourself enough time to observe, experiment and try out what has been learned. During this period, expect and accept failures, learn from them and you might end up agreeing with me that this post course period is as important as the course itself.
After obtaining degrees in English Literature and English Secondary Education, Sean Lords packed up his bags and left to Seoul, South Korea where he lived for three years (TEFL Certification). Sean has since returned to the States and is currently at work on his Master degree.
TEFL certification is becoming increasingly necessary to land a teaching job overseas. As more and more potential ESL teachers enter the job pool, for the first time ever schools overseas are having a large influx of applicants. Because of these large numbers, teaching institutions are now in the driver's seat often being able to pick only the most qualified of teachers from the lot. While not all countries require TEFL certification to begin teaching, in what is becoming a saturated market, it might not be that bad of an idea.
