The World Federalist Movement (WFM) is a global citizens movement with member and associate organizations around the world. The WFM International Secretariat is based in New York City across from the United Nations headquarters. The organization was created in 1947 by those concerned that the structure of the new United Nations was too similar to the League of Nations which had failed to prevent Cheap Jerseys World War II, both being loosely structured associations of sovereign nationstates, with few autonomous powers.
The Movement has had Special Consultative Status with the ECOSOC since 1970 and is affiliated with the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) and a current board member of the Conference of NGOs (CONGO). It currently counts 30,000 to 50,000 supporters.
In the aftermath of World Wars I II, activists around the world were forming organizations bent on creating a new world order that could prevent another global war.
The Campaign for World Government, the first world federalist organization, was launched in 1937. In 1938, Federal Union was organized in the United Kingdom. The Mouvement populaire suisse en faveur d'une federation des peuples was created in Geneva in 1940. During WWII, antifascist resistance movements shared clandestinely circulated copies of Altiero Spinelli's plan for European federation. In 1945, the Committee to Frame a World Wholesale NFL Jerseys Constitution convened at the University of Chicago and drafted a Constitution for the World. In 1947, five small world federalist organizations came together in Asheville, North Carolina and agreed to merge as the United World Federalists.
These five groups had in the previous year met with representatives of fifteen others in Montreux to discuss creating a worldwide federalist organization. It was one year later, in August 1947, also in Montreux, that more than 51 organizations from 24 countries came together at the Conference of the World Movement for World Federal Government. The Conference concluded with the Montreux Declaration.
By its second congress in 1948 in Luxembourg, the Movement consisted of 150,000 members of 19 nationalities and 50 member and affiliated organizations. The 350 participants in the Congress laid the groundwork for an association of parliamentarians for world government, which came into being in 1951.
Federalists had hoped that the anticipated UN review conference (under Article 109 of the UN Charter) in 1955 would move the UN further in the direction of a world federal system. Unfortunately, the lack of political will dissipated any interest in such a conference. Around 1965 however, the Movement had established offices near the United Nations, with American federalist Marion McVitty as the Movement's UN observer and advocate. Cheap NFL Jerseys
Federalists in this period focused on amendments to the United Nations Charter as a way forward. In applying to the governing Council for membership, organizations are asked to endorse the WFM Statement of Purpose and to demonstrate a "capacity to contribute to the enhancement of public and political support" for the Movement's goals.
Organizations are categorized as either Member or Associate Member. Both Members and Associate Members are entitled Wholesale Jerseys to appoint delegates to the Movement's quadrennial Congresses; Members are further entitled to appoint one or more members to the Movement governing Council, which meets annually. (All such appointments are based on the membership size of the organization.) Currently, the annual dues are set at a flat rate for Associate Members and on a sliding scale for Members based on the size of their membership.
The larger Members and Associate Members currently include Citizens for Global Solutions, Union of European Federalists, World Federalist Movement Canada, the Universal Party, and the World Federalist Movement of Japan. Others include Democratic World Federalists, One World Trust, Committee for a Democratic UN, Ugandan World Federalists and several others.

Dallas Zoo exhibits male lions for first time since one of them killed lioness
The two male lions at the Dallas Zoo went back on display Wednesday, making their first public appearance since one of them killed a lioness in full view of visitors on Sunday.
While the zoo continues to mourn the loss of Johari, who suffocated after one of the male lions bit her on the neck, officials are contemplating the future of its lion exhibit. And while the zoo continues to look for answers, experts said the reason for the attack could remain a mystery.
For now, the males are being kept separate from the two remaining females. They will be on display in the zoo's Giants of the Savanna exhibit at different times for the foreseeable future, zoo officials said.
"We're trying to decide what's best for the cats. We're going to take it slow and be cautious," said Dr. Lynn Kramer, the zoo's vice president of animal operations and welfare. But officials don't want to separate the sexes forever: "We're hopeful that eventually we'd have some cubs here," he said.
The five lions, each 5 years old, had been together since Ha Ha Clinton-Dix Jersey they were 11/2 years old. The males, Dinari and Kamaia, are brothers. The females, Johari, Josiri and Lina, are sisters.
The zoo has not revealed which male killed Johari, and officials are deciding what to do with him. The lion will not be euthanized, Kramer said.
The zoo also disclosed a previous incident involving Johari. In August, the lioness had a puncture wound on her hip. The zoo temporarily closed the exhibit and evaluated the lion, but she did not require veterinary attention and was back with her sisters the next day, Kramer said.
That incident is not considered a precursor for her death, as lions often play rough, he said.
Kramer said fatal lion attacks have never happened in any of the five Kevin Pierre-Louis Jersey zoos he has worked in. But they are not unprecedented.
In October, a similar incident at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colo., resulted in the death of 6 year old lioness Jamila. The male lion, Abuto, had been moved to the zoo in January. The zoo intended for Abuto to Authentic Kevin Pierre-Louis Jersey breed with Jamila's two sisters.
When all five lions were together, the zoo said Jamila would instigate fights with Abuto, but there had been no incidents since August, and the attack came as a surprise.
After the death, the zoo separated the lions. Spokeswoman Erica Meyer said the zoo may reintroduce the lions after tests to see if the females are ready for breeding. Meyer said the zoo has not determined what provoked the attack.
Craig Packer, a lion expert who has studied the cats in the wild since 1978, said Johari's death was probably a fluke.
"I don't see how the zoo could be blamed," said Packer, a professor at the University of Minnesota.
Packer said lions are "rather notoriously successful in captivity," and zoos do a lot to ensure they are acclimated to one another before introducing lions.
Some people have suggested disease as a cause of the attack that led to Johari's death. Two decades ago, Packer said, there was an outbreak of distemper in the Serengeti.
"When pride mates saw companions with convulsions, they attacked as if they didn't recognize them as friends or as lions," he said.
But Dallas Zoo spokeswoman Laurie Holloway said the lion's necropsy revealed no diseases or illnesses and the zoo vaccinates against distemper.
The zoo does not have cameras in the lion exhibit. Holloway said the zoo has finished its internal fact finding and found no obvious trigger for the attack. She said they will www.packersofficialauthentic.com/authentic-ha-ha-clinton-dix-jersey.html continue to observe the four lions and discuss the incident with experts.
