NEW YORK NEW YORK (AP) Kerry Washington's turn as host of "Saturday Night Live" this week gives that television institution something it hasn't seen much lately: a Wholesale NFL Jerseys black woman onstage trying to make people laugh.
The show's diversity has become an issue, pushed to the forefront by comments from the two black male cast members.
No black women are among the 16 repertory or featured players currently on the show. While Eddie Murphy, Garrett Morris, Chris Rock, Tim Meadows, Tracy Morgan and current cast members Kenan Thompson and Jay Pharoah have Wholesale Jerseys been major "SNL" players, the 137 people who have been cast members since the show started on NBC in 1975 include four black women.
The most recent, and most prominent, was biracial Maya Rudolph, who left in 2007.
Founding producer Lorne Michaels, who is still the show's top executive and generally keeps the casting process mysterious, said he's well aware of the issue and is on the lookout for black women as potential cast members.
"It's not like it's not a priority for us," he said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday night. "It will happen. I'm sure it will happen."
Pharoah told the website The Grio recently that he hoped the show would have a black woman in its cast, and he had a suggestion: Darmirra Brunson.
"Why do I think she should be on the show?" he said. "Because she's black, first of all, and she's really talented. She's amazing. She needs to be on 'SNL.'"
It's not clear whether she was ever considered, although it's Cheap NFL Jerseys currently a moot point. Brunson is a cast member on Tyler Perry's show, "Love Thy Neighbor," on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network.
Thompson, who Michaels said is as good as anyone who's been on the show, blamed a lack of quality black comediennes. "It's just a tough part of the business, like in auditions," he told TV Guide. "They never find ones that are ready."
That didn't go over well in the comedy community, with several people coming forth with suggestions for Thompson. "It was kind of an unfortunate, unthinking thing to say," said Miriam Petty, a Northwestern University communications professor and expert on black popular culture.
Sketch comedy troupes like Second City, the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and the Groundlings are fertile ground for future cast members. Current players pass along recommendations, like when Tina Fey touted Amy Poehler. There are often specific needs: "SNL" was particularly seeking men this year because Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen and Bill Hader left the show, and Seth Meyers is soon to graduate to his own weeknight show.
Michaels said "SNL" is particularly interested in sketch comedy experience, a different skill than standup. He also wants to make sure that a new cast member has some seasoning and won't be overwhelmed by the pace and attention.
"You don't do anyone a favor if they're not ready," he said.
Two of the black women who were on the show Danitra Vance and Yvonne Hudson lasted only one season each during the 1980s, although Michaels said that wasn't necessarily an indication they weren't ready. The third black woman cast member, Ellen Cleghorne, was on from 1991 to 1995.
There has often been criticism through the years that latenight comedy in general is a boy's club, particularly a white boy's club (There aren't any Asians or Hispanics on the show either, male or female, though cast member Nasim Pedrad is IranianAmerican).
Petty said she didn't think there was a conscious effort to be exclusionary on "Saturday Night Live." ''But when most of the people in the boardroom (making casting decisions) are white men, that's going to happen," she said.
The show still is an important part of the culture, and misses something when there's a lack of diversity, she said. She cited political humor as something that would benefit from different perspectives.
Discussing the issue on Cheap Jerseys Roland Martin's radio show recently, comic Kym Whitley wryly noted, "They do have sisters on there they're just brothers playing sisters."
Not anymore. Both Thompson and Pharoah are balking now at performing in drag. They won't put on wigs, makeup or dresses to portray Oprah Winfrey or Whoopi Goldberg, for example.
Performing in drag has been a contentious issue among black comics, even as people like Perry and Flip Wilson portrayed signature female characters. Having men portray women frequently turns them into cartoonish or stereotypical characters, said Darnell Hunt, a sociology professor and director of the Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA.

2012 Week 14 NFL Picks
As usual, NFL fans will get three prime time games in Week 14. Unfortunately, two of those match ups will probably be snoozers. Thank goodness for that Monday night showdown that could also go down as the game of the week. Elsewhere around the league, the Bengals, Redskins and Cowboys will all try to keep playoff hopes alive, and Rex Ryan will attempt to again prove doubters wrong.
2012 Week 14 NFL picks: Denver Broncos at Oakland Raiders texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-cj-fiedorowicz-jersey.html
Thursday night games have routinely been ugly throughout 2012, so the 11 point spread may be a bit of a stretch. Still, these are two teams that are headed in very different directions during the holiday season. The Raiders couldn't find a way back against the Browns at home last weekend, while Denver has already clinched the division title, and they're still in the hunt for a first round bye. It may not be as pretty as some expect, but I'm going with Peyton and company here.
It's difficult to get a read on these teams, mostly because neither one is really all that good. Both have dealt with multiple injuries during the campaign, and the Rams have knocked off three legitimate playoff contenders, three more than have Buffalo in 2012. The problem here is that St. Louis has consistently been somewhere between "meh" and lousy when on the road, and the team's run defense has been far from impressive in the past month. The weather could be lousy and so could the game, but I think a healthy Fred Jackson does enough to carry his team to a win.
The Bengals are quietly the hottest team in the AFC North at the start of December, having won four straight. Three of those victories came against under .500 teams (KC, Oakland and SD), but that run began with a double digit win over the defending Super Bowl champs. Dallas has been an up and down team throughout the season, and they've really only looked impressive when beating up on an Eagles side that's been going through the motions. Every time I've started to believe the Cowboys are on the verge of turning it on, they go and put up a poor performance. That's why I can't trust them this weekend.
Truth be told, I'd be fine with skipping over this one. The KC roster have been through an impossible situation over the past week, and they could be emotionally exhausted come Sunday afternoon. I like the way the Browns have played as of late. They've won four of their last seven, and the team's defense should, in theory, be able to keep the Chiefs out of the end zone enough for Brandon Weeden, Trent Richardson and the team's young WRs to get the job done. With all of that said, I sure wish the biggest story heading into this game was the return of Romeo Crennel and Brady Quinn to Cleveland.
A game featuring two NFC North backsliders and one that could also prove to be the end of the road for Minnesota. The biggest concern with the Vikes continues to be the play of quarterback Christian Ponder, who has turned the ball over eight times in the team's past six contests. That's simply not good enough, especially when Adrian Peterson is flirting with 150+ rushing yards on a weekly basis. I expect Ponder will struggle against the Chicago defense, but the Bears have to be reeling after that OT loss to Seattle. It's also worth noting that Minnesota is 5 1 at home this season.
I'll say it again: Stop panicking about the Niners just because they didn't beat the Rams. Every team in sports has that one opponent that just has them figured out, and for San Fran that opponent just happens to be St. Louis. Miami is but another better than expected side that is also unable to defeat quality opponents (and no, the win at home against Seattle doesn't count because the Seahawks are terrible when on the road except when playing in Chicago). The 49ers have failed to win on four occasions this season. Each time, they've come back the next week and won.
The Saints were on the verge of being the NFL team comeback story of the year, but their playoff dreams have died a death over the past two weeks. Those of you concerned about the Big Blue defense and also reminiscing about Drew Brees lighting the Giants up in previous games should remember two things: This game is being played in New Jersey and not the Superdome, and Brees won't be running the Pistol Offense nor will he be making 60 yard jaunts down the field. Sure, the Giants have lost three of four. What else would you expect from this team during the second half of the season? Big Blue gets back on track with a win that moves them one step closer to back to back division titles.
This is more like it. The Texans and Falcons have dominated the top two spots in NFL power rankings throughout the fall, and thus some casual football fans may not have noticed that New England has won six straight. Not one of those victories Louis Nix Youth Jersey came against what will be a playoff team this January, however, so the Pats definitely have something to prove. New England is very tough to beat at home in prime time, and the Houston defense has hardly looked invincible over the past several weeks. I understand Tom Brady will be without multiple key weapons on Monday evening. It's in these situations when he reminds you that he's going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. View profile

Former Ole Miss Player Gets Backlash For Tweet About Michael Sam Kiss
(WREG TV) When Michael Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL, video showed him reacting emotionally and then kissing his boyfriend.
Sam went to the Tom Savage Youth Jersey St. Louis Rams in the seventh round Saturday.
Henderson tweeted, sportscenter til this michael sam nast a shi is off My brothers are 7 and 11 and saw that!!! Sickening. is always controversial.
Henderson was known as the SEC's bad boy of basketball, always outspoken and controversial with convictions for Tom Savage Womens Jersey drugs and passing counterfeit bills in his past.
Henderson's controversial comments are nothing new at Ole Miss, which moved quickly to put some distance between itself and its http://www.texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-jeoffrey-pagan-jersey.html former basketball player.
Ole Miss Athletic Director Ross Bjork made it www.texansnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-jeoffrey-pagan-jersey.html clear the University does not condone Henderson's remarks. tried to explain his tweet by saying he did it to help a gay best friend's psychology project.
One of my best friends, WHO IS GAY, is about to graduate in psychology, asked me to say these things so he can have responses TBC
Most people didn't seem to buy that, as reaction kept pouring in.
"A lot of people are pro Marshall and they agree with that. But a lot of people think the Michael Sam case is good for the NFL, good for football," said Knef.

Michael Sam saves the NFL while Donald Sterling Spencer Long Womens Jersey destroys the NBA
Guess what I'm gay football player Michael Sam celebrated his draft into the NFL by kissing his boyfriend for all the world to see then cried because he was so happy and it put the idea in my head that what LA Clippers racist owner Donald Sterling should have done to counter the liberal bizarre over his race comments was to come out as gay too. What a story that would have made! On the one hand he's courageous, on the other a racist. We can hate him but we can't hate him. Oh the permutations, the confusion.
Michael Sam may have repaired the damage left by the God fearing Tim Tebow who prompt the question over and over again whether praying on the sidelines was a good thing for the game with all the hurt it does to atheists, witch worshipers and tarot card readers. They can all come back and enjoy the game now without looking away from the television lest they lose their lunch at the sight of the outrage of "Tebowing".
CNN has an overnight talk show and I don't know the name of it nor does anyone else, where Donald Sterling and his "exclusive" interview with Guess what I'm gay journalist Anderson Cooper has been aired and discussed endlessly because it's so interesting. "Do you think it's enough or has he done further damage" and "is he being sincere or is this a public relations stunt" the insight by the five guest speakers was breathtaking. After the Sterling segment was another story that probed a security video where Jay Z's sister in law Solange Knowles attacked him in an elevator. The topic of discussion here was "privacy". Are we losing our privacy? How dare the hotel release the tape. What Morgan Moses Jersey has become of us in our technological age. Who was Solange wearing?
Jay Z is not part owner of the Brooklyn Nets anymore and as far as I know he isn't a racist. But he did make his sister in law angry enough to attack him and we shouldn't pry into his personal life because it's private. We shouldn't know why he was attacked much less know that he was attacked in the first place. Thanks CNN, very interesting. Had me thinking and pondering.
But wasn't Sterlings conversations with his girlfriend private and shouldn't the sex life of football players and celebrities be private Spencer Long Kids Jersey too? It seems it all has to do with who is being offended or the extent in which stars want to ingratiate themselves by glorifying their sex life; then privacy isn't an issue anymore. We simply have to be exposed to private doings of famous people in these matters whether or not we want to.
There is no mention of the word "privacy" in the case of Sterling since his girlfriend was doing the country a fine service by finally finding a person of notoriety making racist comments . Juxtapose the Sterling incident with that of Linda Tripp. Tripp was a friend of then 19 year old Monica Lewinski who tapped a conversation with her as she was in hysterics over her affair with Morgan Moses Kids Jersey then president Clinton. We got the hear the destruction the predator president had wrought, but but but, it was Linda Tripp who was the bad guy for tapping her friend. How dare she invade her privacy. What's this world coming to.
