Reports suggest that Pakistani Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a US drone strike overnight. This news comes on the heels of the congressional hearing on drones that saw Pakistani school teacher Rafiq ur Rehman and his family travel to the United States to talk about how drone strikes had killed one of their family members and injured several others.
News of Mehsud's death also follows Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to the US last week, when he says he asked President Obama to halt drone strikes. Large segments of the Pakistani public are opposed to the strikes, which have been shown to cause more civilian deaths than the US claims, but the Pakistani government's tacit consent to the strikes in the past cast doubts on whether official government protests are just for show, or a legitimate cry for justice.
Hakimullah Wholesale NFL Jerseys Mehsud has been incorrectly reported as having been killed on several occasions in the past. But if he is dead, this news adds another angle to the controversy surrounding drones strikes and if the Obama administration should continue to employ them as a method to take out high value targets.

One of the things I love most about my job is that nutrition is such an exciting science! We're constantly learning about how various foods and nutrients prevent disease, ward off aging, and optimize health. I spend louis vuitton outlet about an hour a day reading and reviewing new research in order to stay current, and even after 15+ years of practice, I'm still in awe of the power of healthy food. Here are five recent studies about the impressive health benefits of some of my favorite fruits and veggies, plus easy ways to gobble them up to reap the rewards.
Vitamin D is the reigning nutrition rock star. Research out this month found that adequate levels improve muscle strength and help muscles work more efficiently, by boosting energy from within cells. have inadequate levels. This key nutrient is not found naturally in many foods, and getting enough can be a challenge. Vitamin D's nickname is the "sunshine vitamin" because exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays triggers its production in the body. Unfortunately, you can't rely on the sun as your sole source. Where you live, the season, time of day, cloud cover, smog, and sunscreen all affect UV exposure and vitamin D production. One recent study found that over 50 percent of sundrenched Hawaiians, who spend 2030 hours per week outdoors, still had low levels. That's why a justpublished study about mushrooms was so impressive. goo.gl/4FeUzB We've known for some time that UV exposure also increases mushrooms' vitamin D levels, and researchers from Boston University School of Medicine, found that in healthy adults, eating sundrenched mushrooms for 12 winter weeks was just as effective at raising blood vitamin D levels as taking a supplement.
Mangos are rich in immune supporting vitamins A and C, in addition to fiber and unique antioxidants, which have been shown to fight inflammation, a known trigger of aging and disease. Now new research, from scientists at Oklahoma State University, shows that these delicious gems may also help reduce body fat. In the animal study, mango flesh was louboutin Shoes Outlet freezedried, ground into a powder, and added in small amounts to the meals of some mice, but not others. After two months, scientists found that the mangofed mice had less body fat, as well as lower cholesterol levels, and better blood sugar control.
The research about the benefits of berries seems almost too good to be true. They've been linked to warding off replica michael kors handbags obesity, lowering insulin and triglyceride levels, and fighting heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis. Now a new Tufts study finds that berries may help to clear toxins from the brain, to protect it from aging and diseases, such as Alzheimer and Parkinson to eat more:
Fresh berries are one of life's greatest pleasures, so when they're in season, I savor them as is, and add them to dishes like whole grain French toast or mock cobbler. But I also stock my freezer with frozen varieties to enjoy year round, which can be whipped into smoothies, thawed and added to oatmeal, or seasoned with savory herbs as a dipping sauce for grilled shrimp or tofu. Numerous studies have found that their potent antioxidants, called flavonoids, slash the risk of heart disease by relaxing blood vessels to open up blood flow and boost circulation, inhibit blood clots, and prevent "bad" LDL cholesterol from becoming oxidized, which triggers a domino effect that leads to hardened arteries and blockages. Now a new University of Michigan animal study finds that a mixture of red, green, and black grapes not only increased antioxidant defenses, but also reduced inflammation, and decreased both liver and belly fat in rats. Scientists say that the effects may cut the risk of metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions that significantly up the chance of developing heart disease, stroke, and Type 2 diabetes.
In addition to popping fresh grapes, you can incorporate them into meals, pairing them with proteins, like seafood and chickpeas, or whole grains, like quinoa and wild rice. One of my favorite combos is grape muesli fold fresh grated ginger, mint, rolled oats, sunflower seeds, and sliced seedless grapes into organic 0% Greek or plantbased yogurt. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or overnight as a luscious breakfast or snack option.
I've always been a fan of beets. In addition to being vibrant and naturally sweet, they're rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and natural detoxers. Previous studies have found that beets may help slow the growth of cancer and improve athletic performance by boosting endurance. Now a new study, published last week in the American Heart Association journalHypertension found that people with high blood pressure who drank about eight ounces of beetroot juice experienced a 10 point drop in blood pressure.
Beets add a gorgeous hue and sweetness to fresh juice blends, but you can also enjoy them whole. I like to peel beets, grate them, and add to garden salads or slaw, grill baby beets in foil, or slice and ovenroast large beets, then drizzle with rosemary balsamic.

Giving thanks for football
The playoffs continue this weekend. We're down to just a few games now, and a state title is out there for a select number of schools. To be practicing today, which they all will, is something they all talk about and something they'll all remember.
"This is indeed special," Northwest Guilford coach Joe Woodruff said. Shawn Thornton Authentic Jersey "I told our kids that, and I think they understand what this means. Maybe it's something they'll understand more years from now."
Northwest is one of three area 4 A schools still playing. The 12 1 Vikings play powerful Mallard Creek of Charlotte on Friday, one week after taking out longtime power Richmond County. Also playing Friday night are Dudley and Southeast, two schools from the powerful Metro 4 A Conference.
Northern Guilford practicing today is no longer a tradition but a rite of Thanksgiving. The 11 2 Nighthawks are trying to win a fourth straight state title. They play Matthews Weddington on Friday in the third round of the state 3 AA playoffs.
High Point Andrews, which won its first state title in 1972, will play Jacksonville Northside, and Reidsville, which has been winning state titles since 1930, will play Lincolnton.
Fritz Hessenthaler, the coach at Southeast, will have his players on the field this morning just as he did Wednesday morning, practicing in the snow.
"Playing on Thanksgiving Brad Marchand Kids Jersey is special," he said. "We were out there with the snowflakes falling. There's a sanctity to that."
He remembers playing football in the backyard on this day, all through his years growing up.
"Backyard football," he said. "I still did it in my 20s."
The yards will be filled today as kids young and old harken back to the days when playing football on Thanksgiving was something you did every year, no matter the weather. At some point, you came inside to watch it on television.
Woodruff, who grew up in Michigan, remembers coming in to watch the Lions every Thanksgiving with his dad.
"I never grew up a Lions fan," he said. "They always lost on Thanksgiving. I remember going up to Grandma's every year and playing Brad Marchand Youth Jersey football out in the yard. Then we'd come in and watch the Lions lose. There are so many memories of Thanksgiving Days and being heartbroken."
He said practicing today, of all days, makes this season even more special.
"To be practicing on Thanksgiving Day," he said, "it's just a great story."
Rodney McKoy has been telling his players at Andrews about this day. He looks back on it himself, back to the days he and the kids around Carver School Road in Winston would play in the Turkey Bowl against the other neighborhood kids.
"I can remember those days so well," McKoy said. "It's always been a day to get with your family and eat a big dinner and sit around brag about your favorite football teams."
He challenged his players this week to make their own memories.
"I told them they could make news or they could make history," he said. "News is what happens every day. The teams practicing on Thanksgiving are the ones that make history."
Steven Davis said he had to get on his players Wednesday. Dudley's having a great season, and Davis wanted his players to understand that it's about little things now. And then one www.officialhockeyauthentic.com/womens-youth-shawn-thornton-authentic-jersey-c-1_17_656.html of them asked if the coach would bring him some sweet potato pie for Thanksgiving.
"That's what it's all about," he said. "I remember practicing on this day. I remember going out and playing football, and you knew the cooking had already started. So what you were really thinking about was getting back home."
"Football is a family," Hessenthaler said. "That's what you feel on Thanksgiving. Outside your regular family and your church family, you have a football family. We're all in this together. That's something we can all be thankful for."
Football will continue this weekend for several area high schools. To get there, they all had to endure long summer days, practicing after school through a grueling regular season. And through it all, they pointed to this day.
"This is the day everybody wants to be playing football," McKoy said. "This is a day when football means more."
Friday night, the lights will come on across North Carolina and the state playoffs will continue. Some teams will make history and all will make memories. Today, everyone is thankful to still be playing on a day when we all used to play football.
